Yes Sir, same here. I have had them do the same in -20. I let mine warm up for an hour before I leave. I live and run NE MW also and to be honest it don't get that cold here for very long and I just stay home. I can do teens but when it gets to 10 I have no desire to go in it.

Mr @Ramo , just trying to help you out...

A working girl had an idea to try to rally all the ‘ladies of the night.’ She felt that they could go in strike and make more money. So she tried to rally all of them by telling them to go on strike and quit doing cheap dates.

    What is cheap?

Some of the girls are high end call girls. Some of them are crackos. Some are bar flies. Some of them are simply young women trying to feed their kids. See the problem?

The very first step to get all the girls to strike would be to get all the girls to agree on something.

    “That’s impossible, Six.”

Not impossible...but difficult. It would be much easier to get the girls on the low end, the crackos, to agree, but their bad choices in life have led them to the predicament they’re in. Still challenging, but much easier to do.

In that Trucker’s News, there is an article about how the way has been opened up for hair follicle testing to go federal. That would be the game changer there. Probably a third of all drivers would be in trouble. The ones that remain, those are who you go after. Not with a war cry about not pulling cheap freight. Noooo...talk to them about getting MORE. Everyone like More. No one can resist More.

    “More for more?”

Nooooo. More for less. Even the high end drivers will give you their undivided attention.

Well my "more" isn't as much as your more so it will not work. And you sir have a cynical outlook on your fellow drivers if you think 33% can't pass a hair test. I would be surprised if you took out 5%.

Best post of the thread......if you can find cheap fuel and low-ball all of your expenses, maintain your truck, then most likely you will be the one to stay moving. I think people get too fixated on $2 per mile. The reality is, the profit margin is thin so people will have to adjust their operations on the road

It’s always Supply and Demand. While I sympathize with the frustration. Surviving in the long run means being Competetive. Strikes are for Unions. Businesses that organize and fix prices are guilty of a crime if it’s proven. Oil companies wouldnt do that. Would they? Hmmmm

If the fuel surcharge is based on 6 mpg and the Op gets 7 mpg then yes the higher fuel goes the more he nets after fuel.Ive been in that situation before. Also been in situation when fuel was $5.00 a gal and Brokers were keeping fuel charges. Had to Compete with all the others till they went out of Business.Anyone who survived the 5 yrs of freight tonnage decline reaped the benefits once the economy started improving. For Me any rate increase goes directly in my pocket. I too have seen my net pay double since crawling along on the bottom for longer than I would have liked to.

If you’re grossing $5-$7 k week and not netting $1 a mile. Somethings wrong with your calculator. Maybe Overhead is way too high or you’re running very high miles for that amount.Something doesn’t add up. Some guys make a living on half that gross amount. Do that and anything above is extra. That’s who will still be around through the next downturn which can’t be too far away as History proves.
