For the record I'm not saying I want 2 a mile, but that's the minimum. Last year I was easily getting 3.25 from Wi, and 2.25 from Tx. This year its lower in both states , just as an example. I go anywhere, all 48, but not all 48 pay. And I'm willing to accept 2 coming out if I made 3- 3.50 going in
Starting last spring through to mid summer when shippers and brokers were crying for trucks was the time for us to approach all of them and work out deals to carry us through this period of drought. Some will break their promises,.. others will remember you and honor your agreements. Even better when you have a written contract signed. That was the time to get your business in order. I enjoyed the glut,.. I took advantage and now I get to reap the rewards. Be smart about what you do. The boards were loaded with good rates back then. But you cant keep riding the same train forever,.. it will eventually run out of tracks. You have to make business contacts and make deals with people who can help you when things are slow. If you dont and expect to live off the boards during lean times like this then you will starve. Hurst
For me, 2 in all miles dead head included is acceptable to me because it would leave me with about 1.30 on all miles net
Do u want more? Of course, but that's the best I've ever found and now it's becoming less then that, hence the rant
Finally an honest post!! See so you are making money thru a contract. My rant and complaint is over the low rates this year compared to this time last year. It's not a secret I pull exclusively from the boards. I never tried to hide that
Its winter time,.. all the rookies and semi retired old timers are all running the southern lanes right now. Texas to Fla is not the place to be right now. Only way to get me to go into either would be at $4+ a mile on over 1000mi. Then my dead head out is covered. And yes,.. there are shippers paying that right now. Hurst
That’s too low for me. Please That’s too cheap. Quit hauling cheap freight. Do you understand what I’m trying to say? You cannot define cheap freight.
I'm not scared of the north. But if you are north, such as Id mt, wi, IL, where do you go to? You have to go somewhere, so if not the opposite side of the country , then where? Short hauls 500 mi or less??
No disrespect,.. but almost everyone who complains about rates pulls exclusively from the boards. Nothing to be ashamed of. We all started somewhere. I started the same as you. But you cant treat the load boards like a fast food menu and order the best meal,.. you need to learn the shippers,.. make contacts,.. learn who to black list,.. who to make nice nice with. Communication is vital. The shy kitty dont get no titty. Hurst
Surpassed total 2017 gross numbers about a month ago on 20k less miles. Fuel went up for me for the year exactly .04 so far. I don’t see the problem. Yes rates have changed. Yes they are not as good. No they are not as bad as 2016. I will keep working for the time being. Plan on my Christmas through new years off again this year. Mostly loadboatd flatbed freight.
