You need to get a good fuel card with discounts. I'm paying between $2.75 - $2.90 gal right now at most places. Different places have different discounts. RTS/FleetOne has an app that shows you where the closest fuel stops are and the price with discount. I'll top off at my cheap place,.. even with 3/4 tank already in the truck,.. knowing that I will be down enough to need fuel at the next cheap fuel stop. I'll stop at my place in Oh before going into PA just to avoid buying fuel in PA. Then top off in OH again on my way out.
Fuel is my #1 largest expense,.. so anything I can do to reduce consumption or out of pocket expense will add up to money in my pocket at the end of the year.

Why do you keep pulling for cheap rates???!!!

Personally I won’t haul anything for
Less than $2/mile. I can still make money at that rate, but my principles won’t allow me to move cheap freight. My bank account isn’t that tight yet. If I get that desperate I’ll find work for someone else until things swing back. My friends think that’s stupid, and sometimes you just have to do the #### jobs to get by. I say the shipper can sit on their products until they pay fairly, or let the other guys haul it for a loss.Badmon, Lepton1, Metallica88 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I worked for a pretty large reefer outfit one time; YRC Logistics (non-union), and they would snag loads off the load boards for cheap, just to keep the drivers running when CH Robinson didn't have something immediately.
Most of the loads were CH Robinson though. I don't know what CH Robinson paid, because I was a company driver, but the company was very satisfied using that outfit.
We were never stuck in Florida or California because CH Robinson always found a load for us.
I've heard owner-operators complain about that broker being cheap, but the reefer outfit I worked for was happy with the loads.

The real problem in trucking are the mathematical geniuses who need to run MILES, MILES, MILES! I know a broker who was making $5k a week off drivers' WORK ETHIC. He laughed out loud talking about how dumb drivers are. And his idiot wife bragged that she spent $1k a month on Chanel because...they can afford it.
Yeah. But keep running around each other, undercutting your competition, making brokers giggle with their fat undulating breasts and spoiled wives...see where it gets ya.Badmon, Lepton1, just_sayin and 1 other person Thank this. -
