First, Why are you driving in the middle lane if you know the 18 wheelers are there? Second, I live by this: THEIR BIGGER, MOVE!! 18 wheelers are people too, respect them and they'll respect you!!

The bottom line is there is no good reason for tailgating other than the driver is a moron. The fact is there are more 4 wheeler tail-gaters than semi's. I can get on I-70 here in Missouri on any given day and know I am going to be tail-gated by some idiot in a car. Most times it's when I am in the left lane passing a slower vehicle and some idiot thinks he can move me faster by getting on my tail. Yes there are some truckers who play russian roulette by getting too close to a vehicle but there are many more that keep a safe distance between them and the vehicle in front of them.

Tail gaiting is tempting and I wont deny having NOT ever done, but when you get your senses back, we, the driver, and any passengers in the car, could be the BIG losers!!:yes2557:

Seems as though you know some of the law... No how some courtesy, and move from the chicken lane and let them by. I am not endorseing tailgating, just that complaining about this when you know the rules, is kinda holding a terd and wondering why your stinks?

Plenty of bad drivers out there, of the 4, 6 and 18 wheeled variety. Sorry the post-er had a bad experience. :-(

I usually go about half an MPH slower than the flow of traffic, to keep some cushioning up ahead. What with the eternal construction projects in the SF Bay area, you are guaranteed to hit a slowdown, anywhere you're headed.

I hate it when 4 wheelers swerve around me on the left, then change lanes again up ahead, like to exit the freeway. I mean, forget braking, couldn't they have slacked off the gas pedal for a couple of seconds?

(Don't know if this is true everywhere, but, supplanting women in their new SUVs, these days the worst drivers are aggressive guys in pickup trucks.)

All tho you have rights and can sue over anything, there is still the 'natural' rule of bigger wins!! If you try to 'bluff' a big truck, remember saying "I was Right' on your tombstone wont make you a winner!!:biggrin_255:

The LAW on ALL Interstate Highways is: Keep Right, except to pass Some states POST IT, and some ENFORCE IT.
That is also the law on many divided highways and some multi-lane roads (other than interstate).
So it doesn't matter if you are doing "the speed limit", stay in the right lane(s) except to pass, and if you have a faster vehicle behind you.....MOVE OVER.
    Simple, really.

It most certainly is, if you are impeading the flow of traffic behind you. Drive in Washington State once. (On a two-lane road) If you are doing the speed limit, and there are 5 (or more) vehicles behind you, State Law requires you to pull over and allow them to pass.

You can get a ticket in ANY STATE for "Impeading" if you are doing the speed limit and you don't allow faster traffic to pass (by blocking the left lane)

That IS the law; keep right, pass left

I didn't see anyone "sticking up" for tailgaters. Just people reminding everyone what the law is.
