I never have figured out why some guys care about how "good" they sound on the radio. Are they trying to impress each other?
I personally don't give a ham how I sound, as long as I can be understood, which can be quickly discerned by whether I get cogent responses or not.
I believe the transmissions that I have the hardest understanding are the echos, which is ironic considering the fact that the echo apparently is supposed to make it sound "better," somehow.Timin770 Thanks this. -
I don't use echo. The boxes below have compressors among other stuff. They were to be mounted under-dash or with the CB.

If your recording vocals they always sound better with just a little echo.
I've heard it referred to as wet with echo and dry with no echo.
You can have too much of any good thing.
Using talk back as a monitor I have found that what sounds good in the cab can still be too much echo to the listener so its best to ask folks if you have too much echo.Captain Mudsocks Thanks this. -
When I'm near my home I'll place a voice-activated recorder near my base station, drive off a bit in my vehicle, and do a few test transmissions so I can hear almost exactly what my settings sound like
