Swift has a terminal in Gary. I used to have to go through those "neighborhoods" to get in and out of it. I remember there used to be a big sign at the terminal exit. It said in great big letters DO NOT SWERVE YOUR TRUCK TO AVOID AN ANIMAL!!! I always wondered what kind of animals they had in mind.

I'm surprised the sign didn't say DO NOT STOP FOR ANYONE OR ANYTHING.

That particular Gary is just another four-letter word to me. Haven’t stopped there in perhaps five years.

Gary, IN is like anywhere else. Keep to yourself and you wont have a problem. I've slept there dozens of times. The truck stops were problematic years ago, but have since been cleaned up a lot. The Petro there is one of the nicest ones in the country. Where truckers sometimes get themselves in trouble is when they migrate to spots that out of town truckers arent supposed to be. Street sense has to be exhibited and the minute a robber recognizes you ain't from there, it may be too late. As for lot lizards, I've seen only one and that was at the TA on exit 6. She was kind of upscale. She gave me a business card lol

I hadn't stopped at gary since the early 90s but recently hit the ta there out of necessity on a Saturday nite , parked way out in the nw corner of the lot and security was by about every 15 minutes and was never bothered.

Watch the fence back there. The Pilot across road had someone murdered in or near there several years ago. I don't recall hearing more than to watch out for that area. Grant St, exit 9, seems less creepy. Lake Station is another I seldom get to, anymore.
