Yes things happen even though you do a pretrip, thats why its always good to have extra everything incase you may need to add or fix something untill you get to a shop.
Why does it seem like no one Pretrips?

Theres a lot of redundancy in pre and post trip. There are not many things that can reasonably change within a 10 hour period where the truck is sitting. That if that gear driven air compressor was properly mounted and secured at 8pm, you're loony if you think it's going to be any different at 6am.

Don't you guys know that if your truck fires up it must be in good working order? No need to waste the steps pre tripping your truck. Those steps can be used for waddling into the truck stop for more soda!

True, but I'm always amazed how often lights the worked during a post trip aren't working on a pre trip. Always one of the upper trailer lights too...

That's about what it amounts to,drivers rather use their pretrip time to feed their face.

I feel you pain. I was sent to the Wal-mart in Cullman AL about a month ago for an MT. 5 pre-trips later I found a good one, all but one had something wrong with it when it was dropped that easily could have been taken care of if a proper post trip had been done. Called all 4 in to breakdown lol they were shocked I took the time. told them they were all still sitting there and to send the cavalry b4 someone took off with them.

I've seen a truck develop a wheel bearing seal leak, flat tire, ect. after sitting overnight. Miles teach you never assume anything.
double yellow, skellr and wawtrucker Thank this. -
You probably won't see me open the hood and do a complete pre-trip first thing in the morning. Why? Because I am always inspecting my truck and eyeballing things - when I stop, when I'm driving, when I'm fueling, when I'm dropping or hooking to a trailer - always. I pay attention to what's going on with my truck and therefore I only do a complete and thorough inspection once per week, or after someone else drives it.
