Yup Zollars spread himself thin at the worst possible time. Then the idiot buys a failing LTL company in China after all that.
But blame it on the teamsters cause if Zollars was paying his workforce slave wages he might have been in better shape.Canned Spam Thanks this. -
thats true here though this
Ltl you do unload, which is why they start out at19。00 an hr。i would have to say the better the pay theres a pretty good chance theres more then driving pertaining to your job。 -
Wrong. YRC was not making enough money to support the 30,000 union employees they had - YRC asked teamsters to cut back in new contract otherwise they would go bankrupt. Greedy teamsters refused. YRC filed for bankruptcy. Teamsters folded, got rid of everyones pension, and took other concessions, now YRC is back. Learn the facts

Probably because they were in 1.5 billion dollars in debt lol.Canned Spam Thanks this.

Yes, and TL has hourly drivers too.
There are also non-union LTL shops.
But the basic formula for well paid work is union and hourly pay. LTL pays well because at least some of the shops are union and the majority of the work is paid hourly. -
What companies Union or Not are paying the LineHaul/Road drivers by the hour? I haven't found one... When your driving its CPM and when Fueling, working the Dock, Pre-trip and that stuff is hourly...

I think you are thinking too narrow. There is more to trucking than hustling FAK in boxes for big trucking companies down the road. That said there are companies that pay by the hour. Do I know them all, no. I do run across them from time to time when checking out jobs. I have even seen OTR companies that pay by the hour.
Do the company execs push the piece work idea on the unions? Yes, I am sure it is part of the negotiation compromise. That brings us up to the next part of your statement.
The difference in LTL is you get paid for this work. The unions make sure of this hourly compensation. The TL world has no union, no hourly compensation for this work, and even when promised, TL drivers are often cheated out of this compensation. Of course that is because there is no union protecting them. -
Take your CPM multiply by 62 miles and there's your hourly drive time. Yes, there is traffic, yes there are accidents but you get the drift.
There no detention time once I'm stopped to unload, load, wait for a tank, hoses, pump, to be cleaned it's hourly. If I work a Sunday I get my CPM plus the miles I run, plus 12 hours straight time on top of it as well as $50 per night I sleep in the truck. If I sit for 14 hours I at least get 8 hours straight pay and the lay over of $50 that night until I get a load. You don't get that with most companies.
I'm in the tank division. Can't speak for the others.Last edited: Oct 21, 2015
