It wasn't the government pushing for governed trucks . It was 11 ATA carriers . The government (NHTSA) denied the petition .

Oh yeah , at 64 you will fly on past slower trucks .

-
I bet I've seen a lot more 62 m.p.h trucks doing 62 in a 55 m.p.h. zone than I have 75 m.p.h. trucks doing 75 in a 65 .
Last week I saw a JB ignore a 55 m.p.h. construction speed limit and no trucks in left lane signs on I-65 south of Indy . He jumped in the left lane hammer down . Then he realized he needed to exit at the Pilot . When he put his signal on and slowed down the trucks in the right lane slowed down also and hung him out there past the exit .

It doesn't take 3 seconds of slowing down to let the other person pass. If 1-2 minutes is causing problems with ones schedule, something is wrong with the way they do business.48Packard, Working Class Patriot and TheTank Thank this.

Road courtesy.
#1 When I am the slower truck, I back off of her and let the other driver get around. I also still flash them when they are clear.
#2 If I am passing/attempting to pass I will wait for a good clearing (less traffic) to avoid possible congestion.
#3 If the driver is an arsehole who doesn't understand courtesy, and traffic begins to back up I will let off and fall back to the slow lane.
Being in a governed truck means you need to consider others even more. We don't have the speed to run off and leave traffic, so think before you make a move. I personally run my cruise at about 62, when I get on the pedal I can get it to 66. I know some smartazz will have a comment about "wow 66 you're flying", and they totally fail to see the point of doing this. If I run up on a truck that is barely slower than where I am cruising I have more power to quickly get around him. I'm still slow, but I am less of a hindrance to other drivers.scottied67, Sapper Daddy87, Treefork and 5 others Thank this. -
Slow truck drag races, one of my biggest pet peeves on the road. If it takes 5 miles to pass a truck, you're not gaining much. Common courtesy seems to have disappeared, the deal with it attitude of ironpony is far more common than when I started driving in the mid 90's.
I guess if I had that deal with it attitude, I could pass every slow truck that gets in my way and intentionally slow them down to 45 and not let them by. Since I am a courteous driver I just flash the tailights and go on about my business.Bucktrucker Thanks this. -
God forbid they add 2 seconds to their trip to let another big truck safely pass.
People are so STUPID!48Packard Thanks this. -
To pass a slower vehicle as traffic allows - you bet. This ain't the autobahn, and traffic laws require that you yield to slower vehicles until they can move to the right. The also require you maintain safe separation distances.
That's what I do... slow down a couple of notches until the other guy is past me.
What would you know about my attitude? You're right, common courtesy has evaporated, and folks who think they own the hammer lane fast or slow are part of the problem. Ya know what one of my pet peeves is? Guys in faster trucks who think that there is something macho in tailgaiting me while I complete a passing manuever. -
The other thing about passing in a governed truck is, as a courtesy, making sure you have the time needed to pass without impeding oncoming hammer lane traffic too much. It's not unusual for me to follow the same truck for some time before I can safely pass while causing a minimum of inconvenience.
Oh, but then that would mean actually looking at your mirrors and being aware of your surroundings....does anyone even teach that anymore?A21CAV, fortycalglock and lonewolf4ad Thank this. -
Mirrors?

Looking in the mirrors will get you lost. The GPS display is on the dashboard.48Packard and Working Class Patriot Thank this.
