During my first driving job, I drove one of those WhiteGMCs that had a Volvo driveline.

This was an 8-speed synchronized transmission with an air assist clutch. Other than beating you to death, that truck was easy to drive, and was one of only TWO heavy duty trucks I've ever seen that had a synchronized transmission. They also had the other, a 10-speed cabover Scania, and I've never seen one since.

I have been driving a 2013 auto w/d13 motor sinse Jan. it has broken down 15 times, is a rough ride, you feel every bump. they sacrifice space for xtra storage in sleeper . auto trans doesn't have manual shifting capabilities for my truck. fuel economy for mine is 7mpg.

On the good side they have a great turning radius and lots of room on the dash to velcro your gps, phone, etc so there out if site.

The only reason i would stay away from them is the dependability issue.

I actually think they're pretty cool looking if they're owner op spec which few of them are. It's American hardware with a little bit of European luxury car sophistication mixed in.

I don't consider them trucks really. Just a pia when you have to work on them.

I drive 2014 Volvo with ISX and 10 spd tranny since May.It had 404k miles when I started ,now 493k.
Issues, mega fuse burned leaving me stranded on the road (that was kinda dangerous actually),today battery went bad (it was old) and I couldn't start it even though it was running fine 20 minutes earlier, mud flap hanger rusted thru and fell off and a hole in coolant reservoir.Oil changes every 16k and she burns up to a gallon/1000 miles when heavy and I drive fast. Avg 6 miles/gallon but often drive 75 when 80k heavy.
Little thing but important to me,since I am using google maps in my phone for navigation I can put it on display panel in front of me and it won't fall off during turns like it does in Prostar for example.

I'm catching people rolling through stop signs these days not even looking both ways before going. I've nearly t-boned a couple people right in front of our yard in low range because they don't bother looking to the left to see the brightly lit up truck weighing 100-130K rolling towards them before driving right through the stop sign.

    That woman was incredibly lucky.
