That's not too bad of a penalty. most of my dry van loads aren't over 40,000 anyway so I'm guessing if you had a reefer trailer you could haul most of the dry loads on the load boards.

Only problem you run into with dry freight in a reefer is some stuff you need the 110" floor to ceiling height. I ran into this while trying to load stacked empty tomato cans at a place in pa. You can do paper loads, but must be bone dry to do it.

With all the emissions stuff, reefer unit with 50 gallons all fuel of fuel def and winter chains I am empty at 37000. I play the fuel weight game more than I care to but I'm good at it at this point.

If you're happy pulling a dry van, then stay put. But don't come on here complaining about low miles and wages. It all depends on where you're working. There are many different reefer experiences that vary widely from carrier to carrier and their customer and lanes niche. It's not all lollipops and sunshine, but I've seen many dry van trucks waiting in long lines at various places, looking miserable. Drive by Amazon Fulfillment center in south Dallas (east of the Flying J) and see the miserable side of dry van, who are waiting in a half mile long line that never seems to move ... like grain lines at the height of harvest season, except all year long.

That's true. Most of my career was reefers and for the most part, it provided a good living and was ok.

Dick Simon is still in business. Or back in business. At one point there was even a billboard advertisement on the freeway. Just this past summer.

I have no idea the weight difference between refer and dry trailers. But you figure the motor and all it's components. The fuel tank. And the trailer insulation. I would go with what's posted above and say at least 2000 pounds.

    You talking about KTS?????

Dick simon is around though. They have the same skunk but more colorful. With some colorful bordering around that skunk. You don't see em much so they must not be as big as they once were but they are defenitly still around.

Looks like they may be using the name Dick Simon Brokerage LLC.
