YAAAAWWWWWWWNNNNNNN
The topic has been beaten to death, but I'll help you out, in 10 pages, I counted 8 auto/automatic/autoshift questions and 8 manual problems. Who cares. I get it, you have a hard time feeling like a man without a stick in your hand, no issues, maybe you should talk to your woman about that, not TTR. I have 2.5 million miles exp. 60% of that running mountains, 90% of that running autoshifts and automatics. Guess what sunshine, I've never gotten whiplash while backing, hell, I can't recall the last time I hit a dock too hard. I've never gotten stuck in the winter (oh and I run the Rockies on a regular basis, in fact I'm the primary mtn. driver for my company, in a typical winter I'll chain at least 30 times, this past winter was the first winter I didn't chain at least 20 times in 10 yrs). My truck has been on the hook for trans issues 1 time, that was a clutch brake catastrophic failure that was traced back to a broken spring.
Are there/have there been problems with auto trucks, yep, no argument. Autoshifts built before '08 were known for problems, currently we have 5 autoshifts, 2 are still in daily use, one with 600K miles on it, last time it had X/Y issue was probably around 200K, lately all his issues are with regen/dpf problems.
Why I love automatics

Again the topic has been beaten to death. By your own admission you've never driven, or have extremely little exp. driving an automatic, but, you've heard your cousins, brothers, sisters, fathers, ex boyfriend complain about it around the lunch counter, so you feel you can chime in on it. Go spend a couple hundred thousand miles driving one, then come back and we'll compare notes, in the meantime, keep your insults and judgements to yourself.
BTW, childish insults, calling anyone who drives or prefers an automatic a "steering wheel holder", as you have done, that's also a "childish insult" so, perhaps, you might want to read the forum rules as well. Last edited: May 18, 2018
Odin's Rabid Dog Thanks this. -
7.45 for last 3712 miles. This is I don't know how much WTF traffic, also 400 miles of WTF two lane in the Bitterroot Mountains and Sawtooth Wilderness.
AND
The God #### fan clutch stuck on for 4 full days included there. -
No worries, I'm done for the night, but I'm not going to play the lunch counter roulette of complaining about something you have zero or extremely limited exp. with. I apologize to you sir.shogun and Odin's Rabid Dog Thank this.

Did you get it fixed? Was it the ecm?

Are we including the "help, I don't know how to shift" threads? That, imo, is the main driving force behind the switch to automated transmissions.
A manual will get better fuel economy and last longer than any automatic - PROVIDED it's driven and maintained properly. If a company can cut it's training costs AND it's fuel costs it will easily compensate for the increased maintenance. We all know the "I'm going to do it my way, to heck with doing it right" drivers (see the flatbed hall of shame). The autos give fleet managers one less thing they have to cajole "drivers" into doing. -
I saw a ProStar with a super tall shifter.
shogun and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.
