I am not a freightliner fan, but that sounds more like lazy employees than any freightliner policy, and can be seen at times with any manufacturer or product.
The worst I ever saw was in 76 ford closed one of their plants that built pickups, and the employees had advanced notice, incase they wanted to relocate to keep their job.
There were coke bottles inside of doors, even lifters in upside down with f-u wrote on the bottom of the intake, motor mount bolts non existent, just all kind of shennanagins. lol
Why I won't buy another Freightliner

The hubs probably were assembled somewhere else. Same hubs, different Trucks. I saw a new Pete while back, with bad rear axle bearing. Those things can happen on any Truck, but those Freightliner doors, are the worst. And every time I attempt to fix the dash, I break it more. It’s a lost cause. Like the doors, one screw holds 3 things. Cheaper assembly, Interior reminds Me of my old Dodge Dart, rattles and squeaks, but still works. It’s a work in progress, that never ends. Outside door handle is bad again, lock won’t work. It’s only about 2 yrs old. Never ends. I won’t buy another Freightliner either, this one won’t die.

I notice Detroit Diesels making rear ends now, maybe transmissions too? Truck drivetrain options are getting limited. Too bad, I prefer the old way, more spec choices.

Those Fld’s were the most efficient moneymakers of all time, for a conventional. I’m seeing more on the roads everyday, ressurected from fields and junk yards. Most of them went to Mexico, about 20 yrs ago. They didn’t die out. Probably still a bunch running down there. So many fleets ran them, A lot of Drivers came to hate them. Like cabover, they’re looking better and better everyday to Me. It’s rare to see a nice one, with full fairings intact. They were nice, Driver friendly, except for leg room. You could walk the fairings to the back, when dropping a trailer to avoid a mud hole. That was a big plus when needed. Good Trucks.
