    Hello,

I am new to the site but have been using it for some time. I finally decided to register after doing weeks of research but no luck finding the information I am after.

I am looking to change career paths and am in the process of choosing a route to go in getting my CDL, and have been debating this for many years. Well, here I am and I'm ready to pull the trigger.

I am 37 and have been in construction and metal fabrication for most my adult life. I am wanting to get my CDL as soon as possible and as long as I can make ends meet, I don't care whether company sponsored, or private. I am exploring both options. BUT......I have felonies from 2016 of Assault 3, and Marijuana charge from 2011, and was incarcerated from 3/2016 thru 9/2018 but have been working every day since release. I have a perfect driving record and have an active license.

I live in Oregon right off I-5 and am looking for companies with both company sponsored training that would accept me with my background, and also companies that would hire me if I were fresh out of school with a CDL and no experience. I am happy to do OTR but would rather be regional to get more experience rather than just driving straight for hours and hours, but also am open to anything that is available and any company willing to give me a chance. I have solid work history and professional references.

If there is anybody with helpful information I would greatly appreciate it as I am about to be laid off my job at the end of the month and want to get the ball rolling AS SOON AS ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE. Again, thank you for any information that may help!

Sygma Network and Sysco sometimes hire drivers with only a CDL-A Permit.
Also, hire new cdl school grads right out of school.
Contact both companies and ask if they're currently hiring drivers with only a CDL-A Permit.

Phone number for Sygma Network is on this website:

OP, The maximum I've seen an insurance company look back is ten years, and that was for DWI/DUI.

Most companies don't look back much beyond 5 years and the average is 3 years for MVR issues.

A large percentage of carriers do not do a through criminal history due to cost and the need for fingerprints.

All the 'free' criminal check DAC/hirerite users get is a name check and hits every level of the criminal court system so you get the local, county and state repeating ad nausem so it usually gets tossed. One old offense generates 3 - 5 pages and was usually useless.

You are employable in this industry. Be prepard to discuss your answer to anything the carrier might find referencing your performance after paying your debt...IF IT COMES UP!!!!!

You may need to explain what you were doing when you were inside, in the future, if the carrier puts effort into the required background investigation.

Third party digital qualification companies could be anal about looking back ten years.

As you are looking into obtaining a CDL; your first carrier only needs an unbroken history back three years on your Part 391 qualification file for employment, driving, etc.

Chinatown will steer you now get that CDL and go.
