Sorry but that's precisely what some of the problems are. Instead of taking a driver with 20 or 30 years safe driving and passing on his expertise to the newer drivers, management with their book smarts will try to change so they can make a name. Have you ever heard if it's not broke don't fix it?

In my line of work you don't reach those years if you have bad habits. We don't hire those drivers for one and if a driver does do good he or she is rewarded. After 20 years driving what newer ways could there be? Any one that would work anyhow.

In a gasoline truck life is not about changing. Life is about perfecting your driving skills and getting home safetly. If management thinks the older PROFESSIONAL drivers are bilegerant where do you think the problems are?

I was very lucky to work for a company that took the expertise from those drivers and passed it along. It gave all of us incentive to be like them. Maybe that's why our upper and lower management had to go with these drivers for a week before they were assigned any tasks. And maybe that's why are safety record is impeccable.
