I'm trying to figure out what you guys consider low pay. I'm in school to get my CDL while I work my regular 9-5 bringing in $27k a year. If I can't improve on that then I need to drop out of school right now.

Considering cost of eating on the road and how home sick you will become it would be very difficult to calculate the difference in wages vs. happiness with so little else known. I always felt happiness on the road was worth at least $330/day. So now I work a home daily gig.

It used to be you could get your CDL and get work, some who don't know the pure hell of being with someone who cannot communicate there intentions(are they stopping for 30 minutes or ten hours, I see you went and talked to the shop so are you putting truck in shop etc.) has no idea how it feels. We are not psychic so please communicate so we know if we can sleep, go take a crap, can take a shower etc.

I personally would consider anything under $60,000 a year to be low pay, but I've also been behind the wheel for 8 years. If you want me to go back OTR, then I want twice that just to pull a box.

You would eat lunch at a regular job as well. Groceries cost money to eat dinner at home. The cost isn't as much as you think. Plus you don't burn your gas commuting everyday. How much is gas now? Oh that's right, I'm a trucker I don't care.

If I made $60k I'd do a freakin' back flip. Just goes to show perception of pay. I'd go crazy for $40k next year. As a (hopeful) new trucker next year I'm hoping I can reach that number.

With your first few years you'll average $30,000-$40,000. After that it all depends on you and where you go in the industry. Last year I made $70,000, and stand to make $80,000+ next year.

Get that experience under your belt, and go on from there. We all started at the bottom. I personally started at CR England.
