And rightly so. I mentioned those other casualties of industy as not only contributing to a shortage of ranks - however great or small they may be- but as a further appealing nature of the task at hand for the livelihood that is being persued by new prospects, such as you and I once were. Sure we both knew the risks coming onboard, but to what degree? .....My apologies for the lack of clarity. I'm afraid I've been in this contraption too long. Much too long. Almost time for another turnover.

being paid "short" miles isn't a Swift problem, HHG is standard

I wish we were paid HHG+10% its not going to happen, but its what I wish

Idling isn't a Knight problem, its also a common problem, plus Idiling is illegal many places so thats not a Knight problem. I won't go into how I feel about idling anyway

threatening to attack your DAC is a threat, since turnover is so high they threaten you to get you to stay

    what?

they do barley any maintence because it costs money, and also if the truck is in the shop (for any reason) its not making money.

Idiling isn't a company problem, many places are outlawing idling, and if a truck is idling its buring up fuel, which is money they are losing

I won't go into how I feel about APU's because I have before, but just because a company has APU's doesn't make itb a good company. If they advertise it that means they are so short or have such high turnover that they have to "sell you" its a sales thing

For many, due to current economic situations in certain parts of the country, they are literally out of options, and trucking is the only job in town. In Milwaukee, we had a meat packing company, Cargill, close the doors unexpectedly, putting 600 workers out of a job. What are those people supposed to do? You can bet some of them will be looking at trucking, and sadly, this is how many companies get their drivers, only to find out, it's not what it's perceived to be.

If I would start over in the new era of trucking I'd be working at McDonald's. Would you like that super-sized.

I listen to Road Dog on Sirius often and the topic of turn over is dicussed a lot on there... I like that the commentary bydrivers calling in ddoesn't paint as dismal a picture of trucking as I find here.. contrary to the popular belief nere there are drivers who are enjoying being a truck driver and making a deceant income...

There are many factors that contribute to the high turn over... a big contributing factor is the training, or more accurately, the lack of training that new drivers recieve.... majority of new drivers are not properly trained on how to be successful as a driver... they finish training and still dont know how to trip plan, how to back, how to live on the road... being so unprepared for what they need to know to survive cause stress, mistakes and accidents.. from backing into things, taking out poles or signes on tignt turns.. and sometimes a new driver has too many mishaps too soon in there career and are fired and have ever dwindling choices of who will hire them... some drivers just find it too stressful and quit. .. proper training would have better prepared them and countless others. ...

There is also a big misconception among new drivers.. many feel that once they have gone school and out with a trainer for a few hundred hours of experience they are good to go.... but the truth is, it takes time, determination and commitment to learn and develop the skills needed to run effeciently, safely, enjoyably and earn a good pay check week after week....

I like trucking.. I am in the best and most joyful company for the majority of the day... lol, but seriously, when alone with yourself in your truck for hours and hours every day, you find out just what kind of person you are... and some find they really don't like themselves enough to be alone with themselves hour after hour, day after day...

Fortunately for me, I am a whoote and quite entertaining. ..
