Hi 123456, I think the turnover may be decreasing, because like I say, it's the only game in town, and people HAVE to make it work. In N. Wis., in the local paper's want ads for employment, there were 6 ads, and all of them were for OTR truck drivers. There literally is nothing else.

    bergy and 123456 Thank this.

Turn over is high because Dispatchers don't have a clue nor do they care.

No, he was pretty clear on the fact that what he encountered was a dystopian work environment. He wasn't eloquent about it, and I don't blame him since I'm the same way when it comes to such nonsense. It would be one thing if his experience was unique but sadly it's not. As long as an industry can exercise in a manner the way freight transportation does - including but not limited to, abandoning an employee out in the middle of nowhere - the valid complaints will continue.

Not trying to argue here , but that ASE certification and .50 cents will buy you a cup. In your scenario the driver hired will be the one with the best driving record ( accidents/incidents etc...) and the one that gives the best impression at the interview...but a really good company wants the best of the best...driving record wise....all of the certifications and education is second by a long shot to that MVR....

in my opinion one shouldn't be allowed to be a dispatcher or a DM unless they've had at least 2 years OTR experience, or 2 years experience doing your job (local/LTL people)

i've been fired by 2 large carriers before and I've never been abandoned in the middle of nowhere they always got me home

Lots of newbies bring this into their lives all by themselves though....by not doing the research , and taking the time to find and apply to those companies that will treat them well. There are some really bad companies out there..... really bad....But there are many , many more good than bad. When looking for a really great trucking job newbies need not fill their hands full of the leaf-lets from the truck -stop counter , or listen to a pretty young lady recruiter at the school they attend.....They need instead to get-out drive around and look at whats going on on the roads , look at equipment trucks and trailers....read and write down company names and phone numbers..then get a newspaper find the want-ad section and call every single number or company that does not run an ad ...good /great jobs never advertise....anywhere.....they don't have to....

As far as the turn-over thing...no telling....trucking is a special calling..to do it , and do it well , and be successful at it , you have to really want to do it...I started out with a reefer company running freight to the west coast and the northwest....then produce back to the northeast...did for 3 years or so , then landed a dream job with GSF and stayed there for the next 33 years...ended-up retiring from them in 2011 .....THE GOOD JOBS DO EXIST....you just have to know where to look , or better , where not to look....

Thats right keep eyes and ears open mouth shut and you can learn where the good ones are and who they are.
Started at .26 4 months later talked a better company into giving me a shoot .38 mile did my job and never once had a problem with mile by the end of 1 year exp was at .42 that was like 9 years ago.
Its all about attitude and willingness to prove your worth!!
Oh and not one of them companies did I have to stay out for weeks at a time was home 85-95% of weekends.

Indeed, I have been staying in truckstops for a long time and I have never seen a driver who was abandoned. Oh it might have happened a few times but it's not nearly as common as people make it out to be.

Dispatch is a far cry from driving though. Best ones I ever had never spent a day in a truck.

a few months ago when I was looking for work I was told by my parents that I am NOT allowed to read company reviews online because they are written by angry people who are just mad because the company fired them for some reason, if its on the Internet doesn't make it true. Most people with brains know this.

if the company doesn't advertise how do you know they are legit?

you can't go to a truck stop and just write down numbers if you do you're likley to get the police called on you

If you work for a small company that doesn't use DAC and you guys part ways and you say "I worked for this Company" they immedadley disqualify you for lying, there is no record of it therefore you're lying

Don't know where you got that last part. I pulled flats for years for a company that had no idea what a DAC was, never had a problem getting hired on elsewhere.
