I did irregular route LTL dairy loads with multiple drops in NJ and NY for a month back in 2016 helping a friend out. I used my KW with 280” WB and pulled a 53ft reefer. I never couldn’t get into a place but hauling cattle with 280” WB pulling a 52ft spread was pretty good practice in tight areas.
I know it can seem foreign to someone who drives a short truck but believe it or not you can actually adapt to a longer truck and you learn how to set yourself up for tight corners or tight backing situations. Of the 3 trucks I’ve owned this 579 is the shortest at 265”. My other 2 were both 280”.
Why? Just... Why???

Ran with a driver with a 300 inch flatbed, doing a few O/S out of The loop in Chicago , he made it look easy. 1 of the riggers asked me how old his truck was. He thought it was old because it had wood floors.
staceydude and BigBob410 Thank this. -
This is outside of Elk Falls KS. Plenty of long trucks have to get in here to load calves every spring. Anywhere a short truck goes someone has been in there with a long truck.
