'WHY' More Miles More Money, Wrong!!

    $1.47 as a I/P or O/O is pretty cheap pay these days. If that is drivers pay, that is a rare setup. Nobody is that "good"

    The n'east has some very narrow and crowded roads. Think of the age of the cities , they were built long before some states were even founded. I grew up in upstate NY and have relatives in Conn. Those roads IMO are an accident waiting to happen and I avoid places like that if I can.
    A traffic back up in WYO is like 6 cars,lol !! I lived out there also ,back in the '70's. loved driving out to Reno from the Carolina's , cross the Miss river and the traffic thins out.
    Tried to get the wife to move out west, she asked how cold it got in Wyo. Well -40 was a little bit too much for my southern belle,lol. I even had a good job lined up,local slurry tanker yanker at $20/hr to start.

    After reading through this thread, I think I'll put my waders on, because the #### is getting deep!

    Glad everyone has found the "right" company, and is making big money.

    55 hours, try 65ish. Being new sucks, but it's all part of the process. It could be worse, much worse. I consider myself lucky to be in a position to have a job, and be able to save the majority of my income.

    Yeah I mildly retract that statement. New England can be a #####. Local deliveries all day with a 53 in Providence anyone? Oh no, you won't be in a good mood at the end of that day.

    When going up in them there parts I usually run the extra miles and come in on I-84 and avoid nearly all the insanity. But then again, we ain't hauling into there for peanuts!

    Good to hear that there are a few people who understand that this is about more revenue and less miles. Too bad it's so difficult to find drivers who understand that they are better off driving 2400 miles a week for $1200 than they are driving 3500 miles a week and getting paid for 3200 for $1,000. But wait, there's more - pulling flatbeds and step decks you have to actually be willing to do some WORK... and the guys who pull the lowboys and have to use their back AND their brains make $500 - $700 more. And yet it's difficult to hire drivers... can't understand why.:biggrin_25511:

    yeah, i forgot about the otr trick of not burning up your 70 by putting yourself on line 1 a lot of the time. all the jobs I have had for the last few years are hourly, so until i'm punching out, its all line 4!

    but that still proves my point. no way i'm driving 65 hours a week for otr income. I put in 56 hours last week, and i ended up getting burned on taxes because I get to a point of diminishing returns for hours worked. I'll take 50 or less from now on, as long as I can help it.

    If I was making 500 bucks a mile I would still want to run 3000 miles per week. Heck. If they paid me 1 million dollars per mile. 3000 miles a week. No sweat. It is not that I want less miles, I just want more money!
