Then the owner of your truck knows crap about trucks. Ideling for long periods does far more damage then starting ever will.

    .

Idling, has only become an issue because of the idiots who hold power without recourse.

The EPA and their select cronies make law, without public, professional, or scientific input.

Over 5 million NONE Americans have died, to save 1 in a million children from cancer....due to stupid laws passed by the EPA.

NO Idling, is commonly used by people and companies looking to trim budgets and increase profits.

There is NO consideration given to the drivers health and well being, from anyone in the food chain...company, local, state, or federal.

But leave your dog locked in a closed truck with no A/C....God Help you.

Last night I was parked across the row from a trailer that had all the super aero stuff on it, nose cone, low side panels, and even inflatible cones on the back door. The signs on the side said it gave about a 7% improvement in fuel mileage, and the driver idled all night with his parking lights on. Temp in the 60's!
When they idiot-proof stuff, they find better idiots!

I have to agree, also consider companies that route you through a roller coaster of hills that you'll have to hammer up loaded, to save 10 or 15 miles. I've actually calculated a .5 to 1 Mile per gallon, per trip, fuel saving going the extra 10 or 15 miles. But the company will have none of it... and they then have then audacity to complain about idle time. The idioticy knows no bounds. :biggrin_2556:

One way to solve the No-idling laws is to wait until there is a major accident that is a result of such law. Some driver is unable to sleep because it's too hot or too cold out. Along with the driver and the company, the State or Municipality that enacted the law should also be sued. Let's put some of these legislators or City Council members in a truck and make them follow the same requirements as us and see how rested and well they do their jobs.

One other thing, City and County of Denver has a pretty strict no-idling ordinace, but it's randomly enforced, mainly in the residential area around the Coke Bottling plant. Summer '08, we delivered a bunch of loads to the Pepsi Center and Invesco prior to the DNC. Late-July/early Aug., temps are in the low 90's, it was downright boiling the truck. Most of us sitting in qeue to unload were idling, a rep. from the Mayors office came around with a cop and told us we couldn't idle and threatened us with $500.00 tickets. The Mayor of Denver promised it would be the greenest convention ever.

Yeah, well, they brought in these semi trailers that are actually generators to power everything and provide A/C for the outdoor tents. None of these units are clean idle, they smoked as bad a locomotive under hard accel., and they were noisey. Then top matters off, the week of the convention, they used City and County dump trucks, plows, trash trucks, and semi's to block off certain streets. That entire week, daytime temps were in the mid-90's, everyone of these vehicles idled for 6 straight days with a driver in the cab of the truck stretched out sleeping. When the Mayor was called out on it, he refused to answer the questions.

    2. I dont stop during the day.

    3. have called 911 before, with truck #, trl #, trl plate, and company. They caught him 100 miles away, police did a report, but guy denied knowing, the pumpkin company that owned thr rig refused to pay. $2k out of bosses pocket.

I ran one down cops came and ticketed him, boss got paid.

    4. when I stop, i sleep. I dont have time to wait for truck to cool off. I only sleep in truck 3 nights a week, and the company can afford to allow us to idle. That being said, I will shut it down when temps at night between 40-58.

    5. good point

Back when I carried a cooler... I could go 2 days with the truck shut off before I needed to worry about battery charging.

Your right... Windows rolled up would have a higher temp. I had my windows rolled down with a cool breeze... The temps were great until those driver's waddled out of the store & fired up their company rigs. At that time I ended up rolling up my windows.

Sleeping is a different theory... Explain why they are idling when sitting in the driver's seat with a phone stuck to their ears....

The next time you see the owner of your truck.... Slap the crap out of him for me. idling the truck adds wear & tear on the engine. More wear & tear means the engine needs to be overhauled sooner... Have you seen the cost of a overhaul? Depending on engines & shops, they can vary in prices from 15K to 25K. Yes starting the truck more frequently does had more wear on your starter... Right now with the cost of fuel.... It's cheaper to replace the starter then to burn all those gallons of fuel while your sitting.

If your in the truck when it is 72 with a cool breeze.... Why do you have your windows rolled up? Also if your sitting there looking over the steering wheel... You shouldn't have to worry about thieves. When your not in the truck.... How does the interior temps affect you?

#3) Park your rig in a location to where you would have a good idea you won't get hit... The closer you are to the front door, the chances your going to get hit greatly increase. Parking your rig properly would also reduce your chances of getting hit.... Am I correct on my guess that your driving a parking lot? I have never seen cars hang over the side of parking lots.... In fact, I'm looking at a parking lot with 8 cars on it right now. Not one car hanging off from it. And from what I can see, the truck would get hit first lost before the cars do.

    #7) typical pumpkin driver attitude.

So you idle just for payback? Do you believe your getting screwed? So to return the favor, you feel you need to screw them?

First.... Your in control of that truck. They can suggest that you go certain routes, but they can't make you. If they don't reimburse your tolls... Then keep your receipts. You can write them off on your personal taxes at the end of the year as un-reimbursed business expenses.

If you feel your getting screwed so bad, find a different carrier to drive for. Attempting to screw them because you feel they are screwing you doesn't make things right.

I'll take the last question first.... I have difficulty breathing and coughing spasms in confined and humid spaces. I can work in the heat easily, but sleeping in a pool of my own sweat...is a felony in my book.

Now back to the beginning.... If it's cool enough while sitting at the wheel. I roll the windows down.

When I'm not in the truck, it's off.

BTW, why would you idle your truck below 20 degrees? Too cheap to add the proper additives?? It couldn't be that, I don't pour any in, until the temps maintain 15 or less for more than 5 hours.

I don't even bother idling, unless the temps (under 20) are going to be sustained over a long period of time. I wear double walled insulated underwear to insure I stay comfortable, in and out of the cab.

Of course you wouldn't know that...But you would be the first to point out the driver who was sitting at the wheel naked to remain comfortable in summer.
