Agreed 100 % Most NOT ALL...would not have made it 30 years ago...I can just imagine a "student" grabbing an instructors anything much less dentures..while complaining about "its too hard too learn" BIG MISTAKE .....

Clutchless autos. Well clutchless.in the sense there is no driver operated clutch.

Your instructor is a jack.....you know. While you.do need to get it moving it sounds like he doesnt care about doing ut safely.

Striker i dont think the autos.are a problem for.drivers like.yourself who have years of exp. I think autos are a problem for those who just started driving, barely got shifting down then went to a usx or somewhere and drove a auto for a few years. Will they remember how to.shift?

That is a great point...but til auto's ARE the industry STANDARD...and they are not. Students must learn on an a manual transmission. The Op needs to understand the industry isn't going to change just for "HIM" That is one BIG thing wrong with the entire country...this I.. me.. garbage... If the OP doesn't want to or can't learn to downshift properly ( read as instructed) then find another career.....

I see some are bashing this instructor when we was'nt their to see how the student is actually handeling a semi.Somtimes students forget they're driving an 18 wheeler and a wrong move can be a fatal mistake.I think maybe all the instructor is trying to do is get you to wake up and listen and get it right. After so many times of making the same mistake over and over,of course he's going to lose patience.

So it will not be beneficial for the OP to learn to drive a manual? He sbould just stick to an automatic?

It's not a life long learning process? You hit a point where you know all there is to know?

The OP should not worry about getting the basics down? He should learn all there is to know befor he gets behind the wheel, except of course how to drive a manual...

    Interesting take on things

You have to treat the transmission like a Layyyyyyyyydee. It needs a little 4play to get her in the mood. You sometimes got to give her a little gas to get her to do what you want her to do. :)

Well now, that is odd... I told the OP it would be beneficial to learn to drive a manual abd you said my entire post was wrong...

    Very odd...

This is the most valid and accurate point of this thread. All the same people would be saying the same things about manuals that they're saying now about autos. There would be a whole bunch of comments about how manuals are more dangerous because you're distracted while shifting, manuals give you less control over the truck because you can miss a gear and be rolling in nuetral, if you miss a downshift on a hill you're going to be in trouble, just wait until your clutch goes bad and leaves you stranded on the side of the road, etc.

And once again, the the fact that there are no standard requirements for CDL instructors in this industry rears its ugly head. Your instructor isn't an instructor. Your instructor is a truck driver who got a job at a trucking school. There's a difference.
