wrong in a few years and a few more after that there will still be sticks because there are some of us that know that the more electronic dodads you put on to a truck the higher your repair costs will be. There will be those of us who own more than one truck who would never order a truck with an "automatic". I already know of a couple trucking companies who went to automatics, they are now back with the sticks and getting rid of all the automatics. The basic reason COST OF REPAIRS.

Pump the brakes!!! If the man can't get the truck down the road. He can't be a good driver. I'm sure my 4th grader can drive an automatic.

What makes a good driver is his ability to take the keys to any truck and get it down the road safely. If you only can drive an automatic or hold the steering wheel of an automatic. You can't possibly be a good driver if the boss man tells you to bring Jr's 13 speed back to the yard. You say I can't I don't know how to drive a 13 speed. Therefore you can't be a good driver. Just a proverbial holder of thy steering wheel.

I never seen or driven 2 sticks or an 18 speed. I don't look to it as a hindrance but a challenge. You think I'm going to say. I don't know how. I'm going to say. GETTER DONE BABY!! We got to be in Amarillo by Morning Yeeeeeeeeee hawwwww!!!!

Nothing to it 5-4, instead of having a splitter button, you have a stick with 4 gears, 6-4 same, 18 speed is a 6 speed with a high range and a splitter

    Dinomite Thanks this.

your right, automatics will probably never catch on, like most technological advances in the industry, abs, engine brakes, computer controlled engines etc. new technology always costs more, at first, anywho keep up your fight against change, I hope you win, as I also don't like change

They are catching on with some fleets. Most of Dayton Freights new trucks are Automatics. Me personally i like to "Buff" the gears.

    Cute.

Still, I'm sure we'd all love to hear what this "good driver" is. You seem to know something we don't, so, please do enlighten us barbaric, stick-driving Neanderthals as to what a good driver is...

I've posited its someone who can handle the vehicle they are presented with in a competent manner, what's your position? I'm genuinely interested.

Unless, of course, you haven't the slightest idea as to what a good driver is. Unless, of course, you're a trolling contrarian only desiring to proliferate a peurile, useless, and ultimately defenseless sophistry. Then, of course, yes, I completely understand your position.
