Hmm do u conserve more gas by shifting or by letting the engine do all the work & you focus on the nutty wacky car driver who shouldn't have a liscense in thee first place! If so then I would love to learn how to shift in case I do get stuck in a automatic truck

AUTO just suck PERIOD. I good friend of mine just bought a 2011 internation with an auto and it stays broke down more than running and always well 90percent of the time its the tranny. And everytime it goes out he has to have it towed back which isn't cheap. than he had an issue with his starter one day while we where out and he had to have it fixed on the side of the road. had it been a stick we could have pull started it. and don't forget what you give up in traction control for icy or snowy roads. you can never beat a stick in that stuff...and 5 year thing...yea and in 20 years we will just beam scotty up with the freight....lol

Agreed something like an ultrashift Are rubbish but modern euro type ones like ishift are really good , they have been in Europe for many years and are very reliable and you don't give up any traction , control or even traction control (lol) in snow or ice, that's a myth! Good ones don't suck, my choice in a gearbox first would be a synchro manual, then I'd have an ishift waayyy before I'd consider an eaton manual and I'd walk before I'd purchase an ultrashift!

The problem with this statement is that it covers 3 type off gearboxes.
The internal workings off these are not the same.:biggrin_255:

I will turn in my CDL before I buy or drive an auto tranny rig. Way to many Issue and you give up way to many options that a manual gives you

Like what? I can't think of any options a manual eaton gives you over a good auto but I can think of a few options the auto has over an eaton; faster shifting, faster skip shifting, improved fuel consumption, less stress, easier in heavy traffic

I will put my eaton 13 up against any auto any day in a all out drag to better keep 60 for all you company trucks. I bet I can out shift you to the top hole every run. and skip shift I can do a lot better than any auto. I can tell the tranny what is in front of me and ecm cant. A standard gives you the option to start in what ever gear you need to bump back and forth to rock the truck back and forth can do it in an auto. not to metion there have been more backing accdents with autos in the last year than standards since an auto cant work the clutch like a person can. bottom line an auto cant do what a person can. fuel wise I am getting 6.5 to 7 with a classic with a stick in the middle.

Heck if all works as planned I will have 2 sticks in my truck this fall......on standard tranny aint enough I want 2. All the wheel holder who cant focus on driving while shifting can have your autos...ill be nice and wave while your stuck in the shop getting her fixed or stuck in the snow.....

I just purchase a 2007 Pete 387 with auto. I was making a left hand turn with a chocolate milk shake in my right hand. Lmao :biggrin_25523:

Before I became a fleet owner i use to run a transmission repair shop and these auto transmission are great for the type of weight that there pulling. I strongly believe that the manuals are here to stay but so are the autos. We just have to learn to work together. I also have a 05 volvo 670 10 speed. I love shifting thru the gears but does get annoying in the city when i have to take it in for service when my drivers are on vacation.

Also my Pete has traction control and i can turn it off when I want

and you would lose up against an I-Shift.
You make these statements as if you know but actually things are a lot different to what you think they are.
Wrong again the latest models actually memorize routes and the next time you drive it they know exactly what is in front of them.
You really need to get up to speed on the facts because you are wrong again
Look what I see is that your comments are based on the first couple of generation automated manual transmissions. They had major issues but the new Volvo branded automated can do almost anything a good driver with a manual on a good day can.
Yip but there a few things they can do better.

Exactly. Piece of cake. Just tell the mechanic to stand off to the side and everyone will be fine.
