Why doesn't the trucking industry use big block gas engines instead of diesel? You wouldn't need all the complex unreliable emissions systems that diesels have. You can throw a supercharger or twin turbos on for torque. Plus, rebuild or brand new engine would be far cheaper. What's your opinion?
Why not use gas engines?

2 mpg is probably the reason.

Meh, I own and operate a school bus fleet. We have switched to gas power. PSI makes an 8.8L big block chevy. Low rpm motor. Redline is 2400rpm. Averages 8-9 mpg on school bus service. Our diesels are 9-11 ish.
Turn key go. No issues.
Bigger then medium duty engines tho It has been about 50 years since gas power was used.
And they were 2 mpg.
Look up GMC 702 v12, 637 V8, 478 V6
Ford had the 534 v8.Goodysnap, Waterman_99, God prefers Diesels and 2 others Thank this. -
I love when people ask questions they already know the answers to..
Roger McG and homeskillet Thank this. -
Why dont train engines that do diesel to electric move to gas?
Why are all the heavy equipment mfgrs using diesel?
Youre smart enough to ask the question, but not enough to do a basic google searchalds, stwik, God prefers Diesels and 3 others Thank this. -
So it's just because of mpg? If gas could get 6 to 8 mpg then they'd all switch right?
