I still call out bear reports and report traffic screw ups. Most of the time I get no response on the bear reports, but I still do it.
Friday there was a back up in Arkansas on WB I 30. Was backed up from the 8MM for about six miles. Many of the drivers that ran with a CB on were able to get off at the 18 and run US 67 to get back on at the exit 7 because of reports from eastbound trucks. Earlier in the week that same kind of report helped me to avoid stopped traffic due to an accident near Malvern going east.
So I'll keep mine on when running. And I know where the squelch of off knobs are when needed.
Why own and USE a cb?

I didn't have or need an operational C.B. for the last 2 years O.T.R. and only missed the 0.2% of the Sensible Drivers, not the constant negative nancy chatter queens. -
I use my cb all time .. love it I was stuck without it for a week or two.. was missing it. Imagine how hard it is to find a 5pin mic. So I brought a 4 pic cb and been cutting up on it… someone down south keep saying “anyone want some commercial company” and I like it in my mouth ***** and *** it’s is funny as hell. Guys responds to it too .

It’s an extra tool why would you not have one…

That second driver is like:"Well, everyone and their mamma is giving me the highbeam alert so I'm just gonna speed up and pass this here other truck in the dark of night until danger catches up with me... Duh!"
Bless his heartTimin770 Thanks this. -
I still get some covered wagons, and hoppers who are on duty. But so many others that are not. Rarely do you get a bull rack answer. Guess I'm not cool enough in my old rattle trap.

The guy in the video is 100% right!!! Been retired since Dec 2017. I wouldn't truck without one. Still a few out there. You didn't use to see the those big pileups back in the day. Don't know how many times me and a bunch of others got slowed down to stay out of a potential pileup because of the good ol' CB......10-4!
Diesel Dave, JoeyJunk, Timin770 and 3 others Thank this. -
A CB is like a hammer or shovel or lug wrench or even a gun, it’s a useful tool. Just depends on who’s hand it’s in as to how useful it is.
Sadly the usefulness of the CB has went to wayside with the introduction of the cell phone and gps. It’s probably mind boggling how many couldn’t function without their gps or cell phone. Also mind boggling how many end up on the wrong road, or destroy a old bridge or their truck following a gps too.
I hear guys quite often talking about apps, I have the Trucker Path app which is good for finding fuel stops and checking on the coops. But have yet to see or hear about an app that will tell me about the wreck that just happened around the curve. That’s where a CB shines in it’s usefulness.
I still call out the location of the Smokey’s and county Mounties as well as any debris in the road, just as I have the last 36 years. Most of the time I’m sure it falls on deaf ears, but many times I get a response. We are still out here, just a lot fewer than we were years ago…..
