    to get hired.

getting the license is easy, getting hired as a green as grass driver isnt.

i picked a school that had a dozen companies hiring from it.

got the lic, got the job, stayed with that company for 11yrs

Vermont doesn't allow third party testing. Therefore, all Cdl candidates must take the three part test at a state facility, given by a state examiner. Some pass some don't. It's really not that hard, but they do not pass you just because either.

People pay for training as a means to an end. In this area, you can certainly find a job without ####### yourself out to a dysfunctional mega carrier, and ponying up $4200 and six weeks of time to get started is a viable option.

When a company trains you, you can bomb out and fail. Maybe thats a good thing.
Or you can pay someone to make sure you get a CDL and cert.

Jeg, We are not exactly splitting atoms here. People go to CDL school to learn how to drive truck..

You were fortunate enough to get some "hands on" with your current local government employer and hats off to you., but don't rub it in. In the event you haven't noticed our economy isn't the best right now ., thus people are shifting gears and getting into specialized careers ,, ie..transportation. in order to provide for their family.

I went to CDL school at a community college to learn how to be a Professional Driver.. increasing my chances for employment.

When I went through CDL school, we tested for permits at the DDS ( DMV in GA ) and did All pre trip, backing maneuver's and road test all through the DDS, The school had no part in that process so there was no "passing everyone". Out of 8 of so in class only 3 of us passed everything first round and some never passed the 3rd round so they were pretty much out.

Not True! Read Washington state laws for obtaining a CDL: Commercial driver training from your employer ( with signed state form) or from a certified CDL training school... Just went through all this and it is fact. Thx.
