Used to have to call the shipper/receiver to get directions and I always made sure they understood I'm in a BIG Truck and not a little car. Had a receiver one time in overland park try and give me directions to get back to the interstate, said he new a faster route which turned out to be a prank as I came up on a low bridge. A GPS has its place but I use my map.

I agree with Vic Firth. I always call the shipper/reciever when about 30 minutes out and now days many DC's have automated direction lines with directions from interstate. I always wondered myself why local companies want OTR experience as well. City drivers are in way worse situations daily than OTR. Maybe the figure that if you can survive a few years OTR you might make it local.

What are the Qualcomms like at May Trucking Company and do they have Macros? An onboard GPS for the route?
