The ones I looked at (and used a couple times) usually list the load, some also list the price they want to pay, some don't. You just call them up and if you agree on a price, they have you fax them your authority, insurance, and tax info.
In my experience, the loads that fit on a little truck are not usually worth messing with as they aren't really hot shot loads, but just small LTL stuff that they aren't wanting to pay much to haul. A friend who has big trucks says they aren't real great on prices for a full load either.
I suspect that the loads that end up posted are the low paying ones that the brokers can't get their own drivers to haul.
Why run hotshot than OTR

Isnt it worth driving 11 hours 1 day if it pays your bills for the whole week? I sure prefer working hard 1 day so that I dont have to do anything the rest of the week if I dont want to.SMBdriver, Motownfire and TruckerKENNY Thank this.

O.K. , let's get something going and define hotshot . You're touching on it here . All duallies pulling flatbeds or stepdecks aren't hotshot . Hotshot is a flatbed version of expedited and there really isn't a whole lot of true hotshot work .
There used to be a lot of these type rigs but I saw a lot of good men give it up when business dropped for their base customers . They hauled things like HVAC units , rebar and other construction material , etc .
This is a real tough business to break into and succeed .
