We regularly pull 83,000 to 84,000 and I don't speed to get things done. And never have. Speeding is just sloppy driving.. more signs of the ever faster rate of the standards meltdown we were discussing earlier.

Fozzy, just following my trainers "example" again.

Btw, my company only has automatics -- fine for flatland but like beating a dead horse on the upswing.

Btw Fozzy, It sounds like I'd really enjoy learning from you. Integrity with very high personal standards -- my kinda guy. I'll be home for a few days, stay in touch if the miles allow.

Well, thanks. I get called a lot worse names than that normally! LOL.. It's all about choices and being the captain of your own ship.. I don't run in packs and have to keep up to be part of the crew. I get where I'm going and have for a long time.

    BulletTooth Thanks this.

Some trucks speed cause they have a deadline to meet. When I was hauling for a local company and we had nightly dedicated runs we had to deliver to a store/warehouse so our fellow company drivers could deliver what we were hauling.
When doing some of the routes you are very close to Hos maximum. So somtimes you fall behind and have to make up for it. Other are truckers like to stop at all the truck stops. I guess its the way of things and it will never change. I like to run with sombody else and I usually go 5 (somtimes more) over the speed limit and have never(knock on wood) been pulled over in any state. Also you want to go with the flow of traffic. Cops look for sombody weaving in and out of lanes. I usually try to go a few miles slower then the cars around me so it looks like im going slower and not racing traffic. So I will continue to do so When I want or have to. If you are getting into trucking it wont take you long to understand why drivers do it.:biggrin_25525:

all criminals make excuses for their actions. Speeding is no different than any other illegal activity. If your company has set up on an impossible schedule, the only way stop their idiocy is to run out of hours and make them fix the problem. I get passed usually several times by these "gotta go" clowns all the time. They are usually the biggest offenders of hanging out in the truckstops. The feel that speeding puts them ahead of everyone else so they have the extra time to stop. Keep the left door closed, drive about 5 mph UNDER the speed limit and beat these super truckers at every category...

Speeding will get them there 10 minutes faster, if they make it. Going fast down a grade isn't going to give you anymore power to pull up the other side.
Speeding is stupid, of course if you don't have to pay for the fuel it is fun to drive fast once in a while if the conditions are right. Running across I-80 in Nevada late at night with no traffic and a full moon is a good time to run fast.

Oh Foz, Let's be real here, okay? It's obvious that you've never driven in California. Or are you one of the VERY, VERY few truckers obeying the 55 mph limit statewide, tying up traffic for a quarter mile behind you and creating a massive hazard? Come to think of it, do you drive much here in the West at all?
I just finished my Fresno turn 'bout an hour ago... 1,346 miles in 21 1/2 hours driving time including my 140 mile loop North to Olancha and back. No, I don't go 55 mph in Cal. But then again, could I afford an extra day to do this trip? If I drove the speed limit, that's just what it would amount to. Foz, some of us have to do some serious trailer trucking, we don't play in the sand all day. Some of us like to make serious money, too. More than your measly sixteen dollars an hour or whatever...

    Foz,
Here is a guy like the guys who use to pass me numerous times in 3 days running from St.Louis to Fresno and the last time I would see them was when I was leaving Four Corners and they were just parking. He will speed down the left lane on hwy99 and wonder why he has to hit the brakes to let people on the freeway. LOL! A supertrucker!

A number of drivers mistakenly believe that the resaon for speeding is to make a delivery sooner.

These people just don't understand the concept.

Speeding is not to make a delivery sooner.
It's so you can trash around along the way & still be on-time.

    Kids...you gotta' teach 'em everything.
