Ok so Im lazy today, as I did not read entire thread. It started to hurt! Not picking on the poster here just clearing some things up. No when you run out of hours the EOBR will not shut the truck off!
They don't listen in on you. I drove for Werner 5 years(4 1/2 on dedicated). They were running electronic logs before I started, that was 6 years ago.
The company I drive for now has just installed electronic logs. We have 12 trucks.
Not sure where the pay cut comes in. You need to be better at time management keep dispatch informed of deliveries and delays so the next load is ready when you are. It does make the company work harder to keep things legal.
Doesn't make a difference to me paper or plastic but for your own good you need to run legal. Just as has been talked about, being at the wrong place at the wrong time doing nothing wrong but cooked book and bam the lawyers step in and see big truck and $$$$.
Be safe out there, cause there are a lot of goof balls driving!!!
Why ticket the driver

Here IS what could be done via regulations to solve the problems and ensure better truck driver safety:
A reasonable 'hourly' base pay estabished for ALL commercial drivers... with increases for more responibility... ie hauling haz-mat/oversize etc etc. Also stipulating that said 'hourly' pay cannot exceed 14 hours without a 10 hour break and/or exceed 70 hours in 8 days without a 34 restart...
This would effectively negate ALL the benefit of running illegal... (who would want to work for NO coin?)
OK so now why this will not happen: It's $$$ folks... Say 4 trucks running hard on specific routes with a little log fudging get the weekly work done... Running completely legal will require another truck/trailer and driver for the same work... thus driving up the cost of the goods transported... thus increasing the cost of the goods. Sell that to consumers in this economy... with the poster of added safety and watch the reactions... LOL -
This would solve nothing! Example: A driver has a load to deliver tomorrow at 8am, he can't make the del. time and calls dispatch and is told "Deliver the load, back up your logbook, then call. We will pay you for hours worked~just show the extra hours legal. Here's how you can do it with out more regs~GROW A PAIR AND SAY NO~CHANGE THE APT.ronin Thanks this.

Magnum, You seem to be drawn to the bottomfeeder companies, as I read it,each and every company wants you to run illegal that you work for. If you drive a truck that you darn well know is unsafe then you are at fault PERIOD. Yes quit the job before getting canned. Write up a letter of resignation and have it signed. There are many ways to CYA. Should a company be held at fault also? Yes and I dont think anybody here think different, but at the end of the day it is on YOU to not drive a unsafe truck and risk killing anybody. I have a family as well and I can promise you they would rather go thru a hard time with me and low on money then a hard time with me dead and them with out money at all. We can make it, we have before.
Are jobs hard to find? yes if arent looking for one, there are many companies that will hire a driver, yes it is a lot harder with a termination on your DAC, it took me almost a year and a half, but I did get one, with a company that knows that a DAC is not 100% honest as to what a company puts on it.And I leave ot on dec 7th. They are out there and needing drivers. IMHO, it is nothing more than a cop out to say it is all on them, I didnt do anything wrong, YES YOU DID, you took the truck out when you KNEW there was a problem, you dont have a gun to your pointed at your head and are being forced to drive an unsafe truck. Screw them, I want to make it home and not in a body bag.HEAVY DUDE and ronin Thank this. -
I'm not saying it's perfect... I'm not sure there is such a thing as a perfect system.
Nevertheless, it WOULD be better and safer than what is in place now, and certainly would stop people from actually working 85-95 hours in 8 days and makin' it look like 70 hours(unsafe IMHO). -
I agree wih you on the no perfect system. No matter what the HOS are, E-Logs,CSA2010 someone will be unhappy. There are no easy answers.ronin Thanks this.

Years ago companies used to remove the A/C units to save money in the construction industry. But now All commercial vehicles are required to have a working A/C unit. Can't find the regulations though.I believ it is part of a properly working defroster unit.

Most drivers that I know already have a large pair(even the women). If there was NO benefit, as in $$$ to backing up the book... even with the threat of the job. They wouldn't do it...period. If fact, the drivers use the same 'pair' to juice the log book as they use to tell the boss/company where to go, if you know what I mean.

Testosterone = money? As in large huevos? Who knew? Maybe I will try this. I don't know how much male hormone I have, but if it equals income, maybe there's vitamin? Oh, wait. Figure of speech. Standing up for one's self. There ya go...
