Why to truck drivers drive in the middle lane?

What area is that?

 

If a highway has a speed limit of 70, 75, 80 or even 85 as it stands now in Texas and your tractor trailer is governed at 60 you ARE a obstacle, a rolling road block ready to decapitate anyone who did not pay attention sufficiently to avoid running into the rear trailer ICC Bumper.

There is no point debating this lane that lane or some other lane or road entirely.

If you are a smart cookie, you will find a employer that runs ungoverned big trucks capable of running at the speed limit whatever it may be and go with the flow of traffic. We have plenty of big trucks on US 67 passing me routinely at 75 to 80 any day of the week, that's fine. It's only two lanes being rebuilt to three lane standard. Most of these trucks turn out to be local in state based owner operators who are doing well speed and time wise.

 

Because the "average" driver is an absolute idiot incapable of regulating him/herself, and that's why we can't have nice things.

 

Come now guys! There are a lot of window licking steering wheel holder who couldn't give two ####s about anyone other than themselves. They ride in the middle lane because some bs trucking school told them it's safer there. They don't have worry with merging traffic and it makes their job easier. Doesn't matter to them what everyone else has to deal with. Sure cars are arseholes, but a truck driver should be better than that. Just keeping it real. Next question should be why do they wanna pass on a hill?

 

Usually because I'm empty or loaded light, and I know I'll most likely have way more speed carried up the hill. Which incidentally really cheeses me off when Senor Supertrucker decides that THAT is when he'll open it up to 78 instead of 63, while I'm trying to pass him.

 

Common sense should kick in regardless of training.But...........

 

Heaven forbid he maintain or back off a little to let you back over. Can't have that.

 

Exactly. That is my BIGGEST pet peeve, when people don't maintain their speed. I get it on hills, but on flatland? Pick a speed, set your cruise, and BE PREDICTABLE....
