I'm glad to hear that things have been going as well as they can be. This is exactly why I want my boyfriend to put a dashcam in his truck. The last time I rode with him, there were multiple close calls with 4 wheelers, and one guy who tried to brake check him on a downhill grade. Thankfully, the lane next to us was empty and he was able to maneuver around the idiot, but if it hadn't been, I think a crash would have been unavoidable and it would have been his word against the moron's.
Why we all should have a dash cam

honestly i dont even see any damage to the back of that pick up. the actual speed difference must have only been like 20mph max between your truck and his at the point of impact.
that video is definitely going to save you some major hassles with this. especially if/when insurance and lawyers get involved. -
I'd ,make a dashcam a standard equipment of any commercaial truck

Here is a quick update on what is happening with my accident. I stopped by the San Bernardino CHP office since they have finished up their investigation and report. I donated my $10.00 to get a full copy of the accident report. The good news is the other driver was found at fault, but the way the report is written I don't think there will be a chance of pressing charges. I asked for the officer to give me a call and see what he has decided to do with the copy of the recording I had dropped off a couple of weeks ago.
Either way I am happy. Sure it would be nice to make an example out of the guy, but on the other side I am just glad I had the dashcam to show my side of the story. I will still have an accident on my record, but at least it will be not at fault. I hope that with the accident report and the recording any future employer can be swayed to give me a second look if needed.
On another note the company I drive for has not been to concerned with the accident. The only comment so far was from the owner when he saw the estimate from Volvo for the damages. He thought they were on crack for the amount it will cost to fix the truck. At first glance it does not look bad, but all three pieces for the bumper are damaged and all the lower air dams and screens are broken and bent.TheDude1969 Thanks this. -
Glad it went in your favor. Why isn't the insurance of the pickup driver paying for it since he was found at fault?

Was the charge air cooler damaged? Better make sure about that. A damaged CAC will end up overheating and damaging the turbo and exhaust manifold.

1st off , I'm glad there weren't any injuries except some plastic and metal.....But I'm seeing this as different....Now granted I was NOT there and I have NO dog in this fight..so I'm just stating an opinion....not judging or second guessing. But what I saw was from the beginning of the tape the OP was running way to close to the traffic in front of him from the white van trailer at the start to the flat-bed..he was running up behind those slower trucks much faster than is safe, and as he was pulling out into the other lane to pass them he pulled into that lane way to close the other traffic...tailgating is tailgating...whether you're going up hill or down or on a flat road...it's not safe...and you don't have time to stop...granted the pick-up driver was an ### , but had the OP given himself more room to start with , or maybe exercised a little more patience , and just fell in behind those slower trucks we would not be here now discussing it. I mean I saw the traffic as being pretty heavy and all...sometimes you just need to sit back and just roll with the traffic...takes more time I know , but it's a lot less risky....
