that fact that many experienced drivers here are seeing it as avoidable should say enough. ..

Excuse me Lepton 1 , maybe I wasn't clear the 1st time I said it. The OP had more than enough time to recognize the traffic situation and the fact that the flow was heavy...all he needed to do was SLOW DOWN , exercise some Patience and stay where he was. The only thing that would have happened then was he would've taken more time to pull the grade...the OP made the choice to put himself into the flow of traffic knowing that he was going much slower....by doing this he made the driver of the pick-up mad...Now this is where things went down-hill. The driver of the pick-up was wrong and should be held accountable..But the OP could have avoided all this drama , if he would have been more patient. A
And vikingswen..you are correct, I have no idea how long you have been driving...but whether its been 1 year or 50 it's obvious that you need to sharpen your decision making skills...or at the very least learn how to take some constructive criticism.....

Ah, yes, the armchairs are back out.
It was a scam perpetrated by the p\u driver. As the evidence seems to point towards, as well as the background information posted by the OP
These are unavoidable, in any circumstance, other than not being there in the first place.

The OP did the right thing, the p\u driver committed the actions leading up to the accident in the first place.

Tony, truckon, lepton, its OK to admit YOU might be wrong here.
You're watching a few minutes of video and making dangerous assumptions about it. Well you know what happens when you assume things, RIGHT?

Well..."he says as he relaxes in his armchair".....MisterG ..the only thing I have to base my observations on are my 33+years of experience and no accidents driving a semi. I'm not assuming anything....had the OP done exactly like I said the accident would not have happened. It's impossible to refute that. Bad choices/impatience=accidents...I'll refer you to the video.
{quote}These are unavoidable, in any circumstance, other than not being there in the first place.{quote} Look MisterG...you said it yourself....if he would've stayed where he was , it would not/could not happen..... I'll take staying in a safe spot over trying to push my way through traffic anytime....

    Saddletramp1200 and truckon Thank this.

Had he stayed where he was, he may well have ended up being the victim of a rear end collision, casued by himself. In case you missed that he was behind the other truck who was rapidly decreasing speed.

    Now, I don't have 33+ years. I only have 11, why I'm still listed as a student.
They are called accidents for a reason, sometimes they cannot be avoided.

Unless you have more wisdom to impart, regarding this, we are both arm chairing this situation. Based solely on the video and swens comments.

Yes sir I do have another observation...Please with all due respect MisterG , go back and look at the video 1 more time....you'll see that at the very beginning of the video the OP was behind a white van trailer...not following too closely being safe....you'll also see that the far 2 lanes were very , very slow moving...with the second one moving at a bit faster pace..very, heavy traffic too..."If".... the Op had remained behind the white van , even though he would have eventually been slowed down even further by the set of dumps that were moving even slower , he would have never had an issue with the dummy in the pick-up...YES he would've been slowed down...quite a bit...but It's always better to be slowed down by a hill , than to be involved in an accident. In this case at least to me anyway...the better part of valor would have been to give up a little time to keep the peace....but that's just me...

I respect Me. I will say again, There is No reason to run into anything with the front bumper of your truck. Even school kids understand that.
