Why would Cruise control work only when it wants?

Once it worked, and I left the truck running all day, it would stay working through multiple wheel tilts getting in and out of the truck doing drop and hooks.

But thanks for the input. It may be somebody else's problem and these threads come up on google searches on these problems.
