Why Would Entry Level Solo Make More than Entry-level team?

Just perusing some of the job listings on a mega's website for entry-level positions. Can you explain this?

Because different accounts pay different amounts. I have no experience with Syndicate Sales but when a guy in my class mentioned that that was what he was doing all the instructors groaned & said it was the worst account at Schneider. I believe that the job entails delivering to florists so it involves tight backs into small lots.

 

Only thing I can think of is the team position is a dedicated lane that needs to keep moving and that’s the rate to expect after the mileage, depending on where they start you out at money wise. Idk that’s just a guess. Personally I would rather put a campfire out with my face than run team, but some people love it. More power to ‘em.

 

It has to do with the type of work expected.

For example there are two dedicated, home daily accounts with "home base" 10 miles from each other. Account A makes about 10% more a day than account B. Account A is averaging 2 loads a day, 400 miles total with double drop and hooks, 12 hour total day. Account B is 3 loads a day, 400 miles, 70% drop and hook, all no touch freight, 10-11 hour days.

Toro teams is a pretty cushy gig, except for the teaming part.

 

That's a little confusing. I assumed that the word dedicated means you go to the same shipper and consignee on every trip. Are these "dedicated" accounts delivering multi-stop loads to retail customers or is it more of a DC to DC thing. I know for teaming we're considering doing something more simple like DC to DC and not getting bogged down with time-consuming pickups & deliveries.

 

What do you think is good about the toro gig?

 

Dedicated is when you’re working only for a specific account. That could be multi stop loads to retail stores from the same shipper, DC to DC, or a combination. It just depends. I’m dedicated and run single stop loads from DC to the companies stores and usually deadhead back. I’ve only done one DC to DC load in the time I’ve been here.

 

If you believe the ads on Craigslist you can't be helped. There is no fact-checking process before posting an ad.

 

Dedicated can mean you haul freight for one shipper and you go to any customer that one shipper may have.

 

Decent account, Schneider staff are generally on the ball. Torro's set up is "unique" at a lot of their facilities. Once you understand how that plant works, it's pretty easy but it can be confusing at first. Money and work are consistent.
