When we started, we thought the appt time was sacred. But here's the thing... that appt is set in pencil. They dont know if the shipper has a delay until it happens, etc. Do the math - miles divided by 50 mph. Add a half hour per shift, max of 600 miles per shift. That is your eta. If they want it there faster, they need to get the jato and wings upgrade on your tractor. One of my first runs was gonna take 55 hours, and the appt was set for 45. It did take 55 hours, but I was so freaked out I panicked about being late and was sure they were going to fire me. Also, checking for cities in the way and the time you'll be in them, and weather apps can help, but if you keep up communication with fleet, the customer service rep can mitigate problems.

If ur gonna be late, communicate. One of those corny company rhymes but its very important. It will save u ur job. A simple message over the qualcomm or if,u have a macro already for that situation then fill it out. Just keep ur eta updated if it ever changes from ur original eta that u set when u left.

Deadheading 500 sum odd miles for a drop and hook? That doesnt make any sense unless you was getting canned, or they want to trade your truck in for another.

leave earlier, don't waste time at the truck stops, and get your act together.

    PERIOD.

you are making excuses. by blaming traffic.

we all deal with traffic, how come 99.99% of us are not late?

Early is on time, on time is late and late is unacceptable. One of the very first things my trainer way back in '95 told me.

Well, one explanation for this could be a new driver wanting to approach pretty much every conceivable place where delays could be encountered with a fresh clock out of fear of running out of time when it would be highly inconvenient.
