I love this job! My Husband and I just started and I cant believe how much it suits us, we still have much to learn and much more time to become jaded about things, but its all in your attitude I believe. I love being out here with my husband and my pup and the great money is just a perk. I hope that I always feel at least mostly like this.
I can see though how being Solo out here can bring out some of the negative, those guys and gals have a lot more to put up with and don't have the support of a loved one with them... usually. I really feel for them, I know I would be entirely too lonely. My hat is off to them!![]()
Why would you want too???

I like because I'm not watched constantly. Frankly, I don't play well with others, or so I've been told when I make it clear that I don't want every single move I make questioned.

I guess you need to love this job! Its cost me three wives, don't know how many girlfriends. My truck is my home. Not everyone can or wants to so this job. There are days when it is mostly just work, then there are the other days, those days keep me going,or at least have kept me going for the last 20 yrs or so and I hope it will for the next 20 or until I can't pass the physical anymore. I can get upset every day with the traffic, four wheelers, whatever.Or I can sit back and enjoy the "seatcovers". Its up to me! I'm the only one that decides what kind of day to have. My last job was one of the best I ever had. small company, family owned. should have kept it..But thats life!!

Actually, since starting we have worked for our present company and PantherII. Both are very good companies to work for. Although I must add, as far as I can tell it does not matter if you work for a good company or a bad company. In this industry you are nothing more than a driver, replaceable, don't believe any different and you will do fine. These trucking companies do not care about you as an individual, regardless of what they say, their bottom line is their loads, ending in their bank account. They will short you miles, leave you sit for days, empy move you to sit some more so they have all areas covered:
for instance, with PantherII, and I really loved driving for PantherII so it is not ill will, we took a load to Miami Fl. there is no freight coming out of FL. so they sent us an empty move to, I don't remember the name of the little town, a small town in GA. Never heard of it so we got out the computer and looked it up, it appeared to be near none of the freight areas so we called PantherII and asked how many loads go out of the area, anwser 1 every 21 days. They just wanted a truck there just in case. Did not matter we would be sitting and making no money, they wanted area coverage. We were nothing but a truck covering their area.
Trucking companies put more and more drivers on even though they do not have freight for the drivers they have. Bottom line is a drivers life is pretty much a life of servitude to the company they work for regardless of weather it is a good company or bad company. You as the driver must make the best of it. If I had not experienced it I never would have believed driving a truck could be so hard or stressful as it is. As for why do it, I will admit if I knew at the time I started what I know now I would never have started it. Just make the best of what you got. Don't expect a thank you for a job well done, don't expect too much free time, don't expect a lot of things you take for granted now, realize your life will belong to your company, roll with the ball and you will do great!
