When you get in a different truck, if it has the same gear pattern then nothing really changes.

I'll take a manual in stop and go traffic over an auto. I just like a manual better, more control over the gears.

I actually quit my last job because I grew sick of driving autos. I wanted to get back into a manual and switched companies.

You can get into trucking knowing only autos, but you'll be very limited

    I love my 15 kenworth 680 auto!
I drive it in manual mode mostly.
At any speed below 65 mph,can downshift to 9th and pull most grades at 1500 rpm.
Really steep grades requiring 7th or 8th gear, the truck pulls terrific at 1800 rpm.
You super truckers can have your manual transmissions.Im laughing at you!

With my Kenworth,I can choose whether to let the truck shift, which is nice in certain situations, but its setup to move slowly and conserve fuel.using manual mode enables you to stay in the power band longer for faster acceleration away from lights and merging into traffic.I wouldnt want an auto without the manual capabilities.

I don't understand why they don't just keep it mainly maual transmission instead of switching to automatic. I mean yeah sure it can be easier to learn but in the long hall if you learn stick tou can drive anything.

Is it possible if one goes to trucking school to practice different types of trucks? Now mind you I could be wrong I am a newbie but just because you test out in a 13 speed doesn't mean your restricted right, unless it was in a automatic?

Baby, a 13speed is just a nine speed with the high range gears able to be split, like the super 10 I drove at all star. It is still a manual. I like that the government put the restriction on for testing in an auto. Let's every potential boss know you didn't make it with a manual. Those ultra shifts suck. You want an automatic that drives like your car? Get Allison.
