I think you did fine. The guy put his brake on and from that point anything could have happened in front of you. The last two were definitely freaked out that you straddled the line - they didn't know of their idiot friend in front of you 10 seconds earlier. Shows how stupid and lacking defense those bikers were.
The idiots who came around you and sat there looking up at you had no way of knowing what's in front of you and they acted like fools. The situation for them could have gone wrong at any second.
Edging to the middle gave the bikes time to see you and come around and vehicles behind saw you straddle the line which made them stay back I hope, in case you had to run over any who fell in front of you.
Why you need a dash cam

we cant all be perfect.....like you think you are
dont you know....he knows more than we all do
he is unsure of how to properly pass another truck, he has never done it....
agreed!!!
thats what i said.....truckon, leadfoot80, kwloo and 5 others Thank this. -
the driver did what most of us would have done, is it right? no... just because one idiot brake checked you doesn't give you an excuse to react like that? what would have happened if the last rider was a new rider and panicked? that could have turned out bad..... that why we are called professional, because we handle those situations safety. .. that was not safe.
volvodriver01, double yellow and rockee Thank this. -
Most of car and bickers don't know how to drive near or around trucks, next day this guy with van came from left lane almost into my bumper trying to take exit and he would be dead if I had not hunked and slow down from 65 on 70 mile hwy in normal traffic on I 95 in va. DMV has to have truckers kind of questions asked from car drivers when giving them license or any time they renew their license . Know I use my old IPhone as a camera and I delete after every 15 or 20 minutes and keep it hooked up on

You are absolutely right on this; us "the driver" have to be the bigger person. Let every one get home safe, even protect them if we can, and lets save ourselves the litigation process and our licenses please.rockee Thanks this. -
leadfoot80 Thanks this. -
He should have been able to see fast moving cycles in his left mirror before moving over. Do we know the bikes were back there at all? Maybe the just got on from an onramp. The Op probaly saw them pretty far back and got in front of them. (or he didn't look far enough back in his miror)
the problem here is that these are fast bikes, by law all motorcycles are required to have their headlight(s) on at all times, but since they're so fast, our fellow driver could had seen the bikes a mile or so back, concluded it was safe to switch lanes and proceeded to do so, by the time he is positioned safely on the left lane the crotch rockets are passing him on the right. Now these guys had attitude and vests which represents a CLUB or maybe even a lil' gang.the lead rider (a dumb ###) jumped in front of the pete, to hold the truck back while he got his followers to cut him off and pass both trucks.

Ok..."my lil ole take "
EVERY Harley rider I've encountered portrays this kind of behavior, come on the "get on" and swing in front of a big truck and just dare them to get close..."Usually the crotch rockets" do the same BUT they either pop a wheelie or just speed off.
I really can't comprehend any of it...80,000 lbs versus 800 lbs? Hmmmmm Ego and insecurity kills!truckon Thanks this. -
Dash cams sometimes make distances appear farther than they actually are, but if you take more than a nanosecond to view the video it is CLEAR that the OP is only a truck-length away (at MOST) from the rear of the Marten truck at the start of the video. Secondly, when the first biker does the brake check to allow room for his buddies to "slip in", that commands 99% of the driver's attention to watch that goon, and less attention to monitor his mirrors!
I will NEVER (if I can help it) get closer than 1 truck-length to 100' from the rear of ANY vehicle that I'm approaching and/or plan to pass. I don't like the taste of ICC bumpers nor need to lose all my dentals by following too close, even before a passing attempt. The OP was positioned & overtaking correctly. As far as his veering into the right lane somewhat... yep, I would also have been prone to give a "bit of intimidation" to the unsafe goons on the crotchrockets. Not a case of road rage at all, just simple "you don't push me... I push you" highway communication.cetanediesel and leadfoot80 Thank this.
