WIA program might come to an end

no the crazy part is all of these guys where driving escalldes and BMWs and all kinds of crazy nice cars and stuff but have been unemployed for 1-3 years......


all of the instructors where still drivers elsewhere, one of them is a full time Averett Driver too and he drives a 1994 Mercury Sable...and has been driveing for 25 years...He was always like WTF why am I driving this and YOU guys driving that? and WHY do you want to be a driver? look what I drive...and Look what your driving... lol

Ya, I've seen too much of it. 18 year olds driving escalades, living with their parents in a low rent town home. It aint family money paying for those cars...

#### skippy, I used to just LOVE driving through the ghetto on my way home from a 16 hour day of work and seeing all these brand new cars and stuff on $6000 rims and whatever while i'm driving my 17 year old F-250....

At least my Tax money is makeing SOMEONE happy

i have multi-quoted some of you for my reasons to bring this all together...i did not take the time to check anyone's past postings regarding "possible problems" from thier past, like Celtic wolf has done...

back in the mid 1980's an old boss of mine said something that i do believe holds true to this day, and that is...."everything that happens, happens for a reason".......whether we choose to believe that or not, is not what's in question here, but the guy, "onthefence" and his problem(s) in his failure to pass road tests, or driving while tired...i hear excuses and nothing else frankly from him....

others here have said, "any work" could have been done to support a family....which can be true as well, because if someone WANTS to work, they CAN FIND work, albeit lower wages, but still it's work.

one is ALWAYS IN CHARGE of one's own destiny, and how one succeeds is determined by their willingness to make full use of what they have at hand, and doing things PROPERLY... going back to, "everything that happens, happens for a reason", is telling me that "onthefence" does not belong in trucking, as all those things happening were clear signals he isn't going to make it in this industry and should get out now while things are the way they are right now.

i just do not feel like taking the time right now, as i am nearing leaving for work, but i would be wondering ALL the things onthefence mentioned about going to school and such when he first came here on this site..maybe he had a genuine desire to get into this industry, but thus far, ALL of the "everything that happens, happens for a reason" is hitting him in the face, and he should re-evaluate his over all decision to stay in this industry.


i personally feel that if onthefence didn't have the coconuts to tell his trainer he was tired was a major catastrophic accident waiting to have taken place and someone would have been seriously hurt, maimed, or killed...at what point does one stand up for himself and say, "sorry, i cannot do this right now, i had no sleep, but I KNOW YOU DID"...i do not believe that such a cowardly attitude is acceptable when so many lives can be at stake and disregarded all for the sake of "you do as your trainer says" ......

onthefence, "everything that happens, happens for a reason"........you got CLEAR WARNINGS...(a plethora of them).......i fear you ran out of any more warnings......you ain't a cat that has 9 lives......

Early in the process, OTF even stated he really did not want to be a trucker but felt he had no other options. Many have tried to warn him but he the whining just continued.

I told him there would be times (a lot of them), that he would have to sacrifice to provide for his family....his response.

After more complaints

I was here when he failed at Roehl and at Covenant and I was supportive. I tried, and many others tried, to keep him positive. All to no avail. I have owned three companies and I have hired and fired a lot of people. Every time I thought an employee was not going to make it I ended up being right no matter how many resources I committed to helping him or her. I have had employees that I tried for over a year to "fix" only to end up having to let them go anyway. It did not help the employee, me or the company to wait. They spent a year frustrated, I spent a year frustrated and it cost my company money.

Would anyone here put OTF in the drivers seat of their own truck? He needs to cut his losses and find a way to support his family. Trucking is not it.

 

I have two friends who went the WIA way and they both have drove for the same company (about a year or so)
I am sure a lot of people are takeing advantage of the program ,but what program hasn't?
I live in Southren Ohio and there are more people drawing ssi checks than working.
My buddys where told to apply for disability because there outlook was bad on getting a job.
They contacted someone in charge of the area wia program ,and like i said they both work and love it.

To the other guy that was tired ,you may have been in the right but the other 3 places ,well i would try something diffrent.

 

I had not heard of this program until today. I'm in Florida and currently on unemployment. I'm going to look into this. Any recommendations?

 

Well hurry (lol) but call your local employment office and they can maybe point you in the right direction.

 

I started to try the WIA PROCESS. I also contacted my local Vocational School that has a CDL program and they told me to fill out a Fafsa form on line and specify Fafsa to send them the results. Less than a week from the time I filled out the Fafsa form on-line, I was in the Vocational School's office signed up for the CDL course. The school basically used the Fafsa form as a qualifier and had STATE money available to pay for my course. Honestly, it was that simple.
