Here's the best picture I could find of our setups on the 680. The one thing on these factory mirrors though, they are designed to "break away" and fold so we had to put stainless steel hose clamps around the arms at the joint to prevent them from folding in the wind which when stretched out 6' or more with the mirror that puts one h#ll of a load on them and they will fold at highway speed.
FYI, This is a 19'6" wide move.

Cleaning out my computer today preparing for my upcoming trip to Dubai, Maldives, Columbo (Sri Lanka) and Quatar (don't want an over zealous officer in Muslim/Islamic countries to take offense to some of my offensive pictures) I came across a better picture of the OD mirror mounts the shop at SPD makes for the 680's.
skootertrashr6 Thanks this. -
Looks like something that a decent fabricator could easily make. I'm thinking to make them out of stainless to make so there's no rusting going on.
I'll try to post some pictures once we get them set up.catalinaflyer Thanks this. -
My other concern with door mounted mirrors as opposed to cowl mounts is closing the door, that's a lot of momentum when closing the door that comes to a sudden stop. That's one of the big reasons SPD got away from the Volvo's and Frightliners in favor of the 680's for the bigger OD stuff was the mirrors.
Now given it's your truck (I assume) and you won't have every Tom, Dick and Harry slamming the doors then it may not be nearly as much of an issue. Looking at the mirrors on the Pete (pictures only, haven't seen one in person) my fear is there is no way to prevent them from breaking away like I did on the 680 with the stainless hose clamps. It's a double edged sword on these, without the stainless hose clamps around the arms in my pictures a gust of wind at highway speed or something like brush overhanging the shoulder would break them loose and fold them back. After a couple times on both sides they stopped holding at all at highway speed with the mirrors out. So clamping them stopped this but then having someone rub up against them backing in or rubbing them on a doorway going into a shop etc will do a lot more damage so buyer beware when you disable the break-away feature on them. -
