Has anyone considered that he might be putting money aside into a account that his wife has no clue? If he is that bad and worked for Werner for 3yrs, you would have thought, that Werner would have let him go by now.. A good friend of mine, puts money away in a separate account that his wife doesn't know about. He has been doing this for yrs. He learned this from his father and here is why.. His father worked and never pushed for his wife to get a job. He told her that all she needs to do is take of the kids, and that when she needed money she could take all that she wanted at any time no questions asked. His father took great of his mother. But one day she up and left the family, and no one until this day know why.. That is why he put money aside, so if this ever happens to him, he told me he can live on his own and never have to worry about money period..

I think its a little of both....not wanting to work combined with slow freight...

Thanks so much for your concern. Haven't been on the internet in a few days. Husband just informed me that he is going to only make another couple of hundred dollars. When I told him that we are very behind to catch up on the car, house payments, he said "Oh, well let them take it away. There is nothing I can do about it" I am reading from your posts what I thought that he could do to make more money and that is to get the freight there before time. When I suggest this, he gets defensive and tells me that I "don't understand" that you have an appointment and that is the time that you "have to deliver it" I found this hard to believe and felt that he was trying to snow me. Now that I read that delivery is possible before the appontment , I know my hunch was correct

As far as the students, he usually takes a while to get one. He tells me that there are not enough of them and that is why he didn't have one for about three weeks

Last week while he didn't have a student he spend a total of three days in three places without a run. He tells me it is because of the economony but I have been wondering for a long time but had no to ask until now, can you somehow refuse the run. I ask him this question and of course he said "no". I suspect that he is doing someting that he is not telling me to only get 1500 miles in 7 days.

As far as other jobs go, I found a resume a couple of years after I married him, and 33 jobs were listed on it. He also mentioned other jobs he briefly had in passing that were not on it. Since I have been with him (11 years), he has had another 12 jobs. Most of the jobs were sales jobs where he could hide out.

I heard that on the Dollar General route he would make more money but he refuses to do it because you have to move the freight. He just lost a Sara Lee account(a couple of months ago) which paid more. He only lasted for one week. He was told that he could not work for this account because he refused to drive at night even though he had hours left to get the freight there on time.

My main question is : Is there a way that he can refuse the load even though he is saying that he can't ?

Also, why does it take him over two weeks to get a student(He was by the Atlanta terminal twice and he claims that he asked for one)?

I really, really appreciate all your help. He thinks that he can tell me anything because he figures that I can't find out the truth.

I am on permanent disability. If I take a job even a part-time job then I lose my disabilty. I di think that if I could get a part time job then I could get rid of him;so I asked SS office if I could work part time because I probably could handly it, they said "no" I would lose the disabilty".

Personally, I don't understand why he thinks 2500 miles WITH a "student" is a good week. Freight is slow.......but not THAT slow. I average OVER 2500 miles per week ON THE EAST COAST, with length of run averaging 700 miles.
On weeks I go west or south, I get 3500 miles or more.

I am a wife of a former Werner driver/trainer for 4 1/2 yrs. I know how Werner works all too well. What your husband is telling you is true.
When my husband had a student he got all kinds of miles for the simple fact they they were treated has a team. When he didn't have one miles were next to nothing. He would get a load say on Friday, and was told it couldn't be delivered till Monday. When he asked if he could deliver early he was told no. He even called the reciever a few times to ask and was told no.
I don't think he is turning down loads because Werner is forced dispatch. You can't make money on Dollar General because all your hours are used up unloading.
I don't understand why it takes so ong to get a student when Werner is a revolving door, but my husband (has well has his friend who is a trainer there) had the same problem.
Yes it's true, the trainer has to log 15 hrs trainer observation in the first 3 days and another 15 hrs over the next 11 days.
I think your husband said what he said about the house payment and car because he is getting frustrated and there is nothing he can do about it.
The problem lies with Werner, not your husband.
