Personally I dont buy my air time from the travel plazas. I used them when I first got my laptop and lost signal whenever a trk drove by. I prefer an aircard (AT&T).

I always got a better signal at the ta/petro than at Pilot. About three months ago I went with a two year plan with Verizon. I have the MIFI which is also a router that allows up to five wireless devices at the same time. It's $50.00 a month for 5gb or $80.00 for 10gb. My daughter has been with me playing Build-a-Bear and other stuff. I use it for things like this forum as well as finding customers. More than once it has been a lifesaver. Second to last trip my directions were wrong, I pulled over checked Google maps and it took me right to the customer.
The other issue is how many wasted nights that you don't get to a Pilot/TA/Petro or other major truck stop. Many times your best bet for parking at night will be one of the Mom & Pop truck stops. -

I got a Verizon mifi as well and am definitely glad I chose that. Truck stop wifi is spotty at best and as someone said you're on an open network. And once again, as others said, you don't know where you may end up on any given night.
I rarely use the internet on my 10, I really only use it on 34s or while waiting to get loaded/unloaded so for me personally truck stop wifi is useless. Plus I mostly run team with a bit of solo here and there so I rarely see anything other than the fuel island anyways. -

wifi depending where you find a spot to park the signal can come and go

At least the Pilot and Flying J have gotten their act together and combined the services.
Up until the June I think, they were still 2 different service, with 2 different billing plans. -
Pilot WIFI is often McDonalds...and not in the parking area but in the restaurant.
T/A and Petro....(same operation now) decent WIFI but as has been said....you are limited to being on property and nothing when you are loading/unloading. -

Jhill365 How do you do that?
I actually use my verizon cell phone as a tether modem on my computer and it only adds about 40 bucks on my monthly bill for the 5GB limit just like the aircard. Just another option and a lot of phone companies have phones that are capable of doing the same thing.
