I agree. Verizon wireless is the best way to go and that's what we use. Once in a while, we'd get to an area where we barely get connection or none. But that is very rare. In our experience, wifi at Pilot sucks! We had to try to grab a parking spot up close to the store just to get good connection. Don't have to do that anymore.

Has anyone tried Pilot's Slingshot gadget? Hope it is as good as it sounds.

I use it daily, and i am computer junkie so here is my opinion.

I find Flying J is the pits. Some locations are good and some are misreable. Petro sucks for reception. T/A and pilot also.

I will not use a wireless card as it is too pricey and limited data usage.

I have found IdleAir to be the best, fastest and more reliable connection.

Until earlier this year/late last year I'd swear by Flying J. They have wireless and wired which is great. They have good speeds but the last 5 flying js I was at had sucky signals, sure it was good when you DID get on but 1 bar and losing it every time a truck rolled by? Uh annoying. And I was in the 2nd row at the last one (in Dothan AL), out of pure sadism I decided to see if I could get a better signal elsewhere in lot, after driving around lot twice even AT the fuel isle the signal sucked. Now I am in the Tallahasse FL one and its running perfect hmm.

TA internet is pure spewage. Sucks so bad its not even funny half the time it won't even work IN the #### building. Ugh they annoyed me so much with that. I called TA support once and they DID manage to fix it, but still, won't waste the money. I made the mistake of believing them when they said they had new better net again a year later... no its a different name still sucks.

Only been on 2 pilot net, their NEW net since SIRICOMM doesnt seem to work anymore. It was fine at the first one in JACKSON, TN, second one in birmingham AL. To be fair though EVERYTHING about the birmingham AL sucks.

I used Sprint and loved it. Was able to play wow on it. I've not been bothered about using too much data or restricted just yet but I have been using it hard. I know i've breeched 5 gigs at least once as I used like 2 gigs in one day once lol. Recently I've been leeching off my G1 phone net through Tmobile its fine except the fact I am not supposed to be doing that AND my phone will randomly kick me off it but when it works it works great. So I might get me a tmobile aircard.

IDLE AIRE, Idleaire net works great (wireless) though its range is less then some others. The incab wired internet works good too. But only if you keep the idle aire thing on lol. Thats 2.50 an hour like how about just the wireless hehe.

The wireless at truck stops is good but the ability to browse the net while hubby is driving is way cooler.

Oh and about the cap Flying J has, the cap is cumulative so if you don't use all your allotment in one sitting then you can have it in reserve for next time. Kind of like Cingular's minutes. Which is a fair way of doing it IMHO. Your friendly website monitering keeping folks here would probably agree. BANDWIDTH IS PRICEY!

Its not fair to Flying J or us users if 90% of their uses use >5G and the rest use well over 20G. It slows down their other users when you pull that kind of bandwidth AND it cost them more. Bandwidth is what defines the price of net, bandwidth is sort of like the highway the net goes on, its only got so much room to expand.

The best way would be tiered plans, where you can buy in to the amount you use, less cost for those whom use less net. But its hard to monitor it effectively.

Verizon is the best by far, I have seen a lot of reviews & talked to many, unless you only use 1 or 2 times a month. The service starts at 39.95 a month & I haven't had too many problems anywhere getting a signal, they have really gotten better in the last two years.
