Maybe they decided against me for another reason, I'm not sure. I just felt it was strange to go from feeling as if everything was on track, to simply derailing. I don't have a stellar employment history, but when I wasn't employed, I was in school. So it's not like I was sitting around doing nothing. Right now I have two jobs, substitute teaching and working in the athletics department at my local community college. The recruiter didn't have any issues about my employment history. It's just so odd to me, and depressing. I had my sights set on JPT as they seem like a really good place.

I'll call Wil-Trans tomorrow and see if I have any options there ; and consider waiting a few months and inquiring about JPT again.

Prime lightweights pay an extra 5cpm and are OPTIONAL. You can drive a full size condo if you prefer. Personally, I drive a lightweight, the room isn't a big deal to me, it is easier to maneuver in tight spaces and can haul heavier loads, making more loads available to me.

Btw, Wil Trans and JPT, both pull Prime loads.

They say they are optional, but in my experience, looking to be company and reefer, they are not truly optional. I asked my recruiter about it and he told me I would be in a lightweight. Sure I could risk waiting, but that's on my dime and could be weeks.

A little comfort is more important than .05 cpm (to me) if I'm on the road all the time.

And I am aware that jpt pulls for prime.

Is your driving/criminal record absolutely clean. I'm thinking their insurance people might have found something. You've heard stories of people trying to buy a house and that's when they discover some bogus info in their credit report. I guess you don't have a hireright.com file due to no CDL, right? Get a free copy of your credit reports. I can't remember if JPT checks them or not.

If everything is clean and you can document the last 10 years, it must be your location. I'm stumped. I wonder if there is any harm in applying for another selective company to see if they accept you. That would likely indicate if the problem is you or the trucking company. Anyone know which companies hire newbies but are selective?

I had a minor backing accident 7 years ago, which I told them about in my first phone call and was still told to apply. I have no criminal record. Was also told my driving record was checked and looked good. My credit score is also good, it was just checked earlier this month.

I'm going to call Wil-Trans after work here, and check to see if I can apply with them given the jpt denial. Since they are the same company basically, that would work. Just wanted to run the western states though.

Gonna put my .02 in here as I was recently accepted by Jim Palmer. I think attitude and knowledge is EVERYTHING to the company. I live in eastern PA, had my fair share of run ins with Johnny Law in my late teens/early 20's (but nothing in almost a decade) and have a less than desirable credit rating from when I used to neglect my student loans from college courses I never completed. But one thing I did have was the right attitude. Even though I was on the phone, I smiled the whole time I spoke. I told them my history of wanting to get in to trucking and threw facts in as well that could only be known by someone who did their research. For instance, wanting to get in to the trucking industry by opening a freight brokerage but when I did it was right around the time the broker bond went from $10k to $75k. I also let it be known that I had researched their CSA score and I was able to tell them how many accidents they had in the last 2 years compared to their number of power units and was able to compare that with the same figures from another company. I also contacted the company 3 months before I planned on starting. Since I wanted to wait until April maybe I was 1st on the list for that date as compared to the 10th person applying to start in 2 weeks?
I know it's too late now for JP but use my experience moving forward. Do your research on the company you're applying to. Be personable, remember people can actually hear you smiling on the phone. And above all, sell yourself! That aspect may not be as important when applying to some of the other companies that aren't as choosey but it certainly can't hurt! Good luck where ever you end up and I hope you find a company that fits you just as well as JP did.
