Wow, lots of different opinions here.

What I'd like hear about is any drivers out there who are currently on the road with their trainer or just finished. I just got a call from them and I got the same deal: 15 month contract, owe them $1400.00.

Just wondering if anyone can give me a clue to what it's like.
    Thanks.

I would be OK with it if they keep you rolling. My problem is being out 28 days. He told me I might get home more often as I am right off I-40. I just don't see them rolling through my area.

If you quit before the 15 months what do they do? I didn't want to ask that question of the recruiter.

I also thought they were dry van. I didn't realize they were reefer.

What I don't like is having to pay them for the priveledge of working for them.

No other industry that I can think of charges to train you.

Signing a contract to rpay them for training doesn't make sense. You are already working at less than market value for your trade.

Suppose you get stuck with jerk after jerk? Or they are a crazy alkie or druggie? Two different grads from my company went to train with a bottom feeder and had their trainer doing drugs. :biggrin_25512: What if your partner likes to play with lot lizards, and likes to bring them into the truck? :epuke: It's hard to stay with a woman 15 months, trucking with another guy? :biggrin_25512:

Suppose you are there and family catastrophe happens? Wife in crippling accident etc? You have to pay them for training you don't complete?

I agree. It seems like there are way better choices out there if you already have your cdl. It seems their angle is they are going to teach you how to run your own business...ie L/O

    :biggrin_2559:

There is those on this forum that swear they aren't wanting to do that.

Yet they are mysteriously intertwined with Prime........... :biggrin_25526:

I have to agree, I'm all for training and learning.. But 15 months of teams and a contract?.. Not signing a contract is why I went to my local college for school.

I did get another call.. This time from Werner.. Woohoo, I attract some winners, eh?
I also applied at KLLM and Roehl whom I'd much rather hear back from. Tomorrow I'm calling them since they've had at least 3 days to process my app.

    Thanks guys!

Amen! Me too. Just like Millis. They sound like a great employer. I didn't go to a 3 week school. My school was 36 actual days.

I see no reason to spend 3 weeks in theirs and be indebted to them. If I want to go to work there I will have to work somewhee else for a year minimum.

I do understand what you all are saying and my situation is different since I team with my husband but so far we are very happy with this company. I'm very new so have nothing to compare it with but after reading this forum for a number of months I must say we aren't experiencing some of the problems I have read about. Even going thru the winter months we may get low mileage loads sometimes but we have never had to sit for more then a few hours. I did alot of figuring with the price per mile also and getting paid for truck miles compared to split works out alot better.
I really hated to sign a contract since like most of you I attended a community college and didn't want to pay again but after working with the figures I could see it would pay off in the long run. Good luck to you all!!!

Thank you Smooth_101 and Mickeschick......after reading your first few posts I immediately called and put in my application. Have to call back tomorrow and talk to Mike. We only had a minute to talk but there is a female trainer available...just a non smoker....which means I won't be able to smoke in the truck. I live about an hour away from Springfield so this would be good for me.

I'm about to finish up school, had a prehire with Tyson and was headed for Orientation on April 5th. Then my recuiter called me with some bad news. To make a long story short.....I had problems with my ex, which caused my backing to go down the tubes, so had to start over and take some extra time.....which now put me out of a job with Tyson because they won't have a female trainer available in the 6 week window that they have to put me on the truck.
