Last night,I watched on the Discovery channel the problem of wild pigs almost everywhere in the U.S.. I watched teams all over the country painstakingly TRAP them,2-6 at a time?? My question, since they breed like, well,"pigs" why not just shoot them at will, like what was done with the buffalo, and to the wolf? Serious question....![]()

i know in sk they have a problem with feral pigs in one area--and they shoot them---but its hard to find the pigs and they breed so fast --people cant keep up to them
and that is just from one bunch being set loose a few years ago -
hogs mostly live in the most impenetrable places, swamps, mountain thickets, places where visibility is measured in feet, therefor hunting is pretty ineffective. when you start bothering hogs they turn to nocturnal ways, and move away from trouble.
the downfall for wolves was poison.JimDriv3r Thanks this. -
I trapped one in a bar one night. I was drunk, but that pig was wild!

Oh, you said seriously! I guess since they run in packs, it's easier to herd them to keep them under control. A pig will tear a yard up in one night. They love rooting stuff up.
I had a neighbor raise one. It was like 800 lbs and had real long tusks. My neighbor called everyone one night saying he needed are help rounding him up for slaughter.
It was a wild adventure, foggy out and this massive creature come easing out of the wood line. Steam was coming off of him. Kind of spooky, lol. He had to shoot him twice behind the ear to take him down. They used a big rope and threw it over a huge tree limb. They tied one end to the hogs rear feet and the other end to a pick up. They lifted him up and put another pick up under him. I think he ate pork for a year. -

Oh yeah, back to the topic,I still don't understand why on that program everyone went to all the trouble of "catching" the pigs.,whether baiting, using dogs,whatever..Why not just get a night vision scope, and shoot as many as possible, night after night, after night?
