Its amazing how hard it is for people to wrap their heads around that concept. How fast you get up the hill depends on what's under the hood.

OMG! Finally someone that gets it! My boss got big into fuel economy in the mid 90s. He started running numerically lower rears and direct drive transmissions paired with M11 Cummins. 70 mph trucks that got 6+ mpg quarterlies consistently was pretty good back then. My 2018 Cascadia is specced the same. 2.64 rears with a direct 10. I run mainly oilfield and regularly 90k+. 450k on the clock and still running.

Another thing people forget about is the closer you get to a 1:1 rear ratio, the more efficient it becomes and the easier the truck will "coast".

I built a glider in 2015 in a 389 that I now have 560,000 miles on. Series 60 with a few performance upgrades. 18 speed, 2:64. Carhauler with Low Pro 22.5’s. For what I do it performs very well. I generally run in 16 at 65 MPH which is slightly over 1550 RPM. I will run it in up to 70 or so when I approach the hills in 16 and it generally holds 65 up the hills of Ky and Indiana. Running faster in 17 at 70+ does fine also and generally requires me to drop down to 16 in the hills. Starting off at 80,000 is easy and I never need to split gears while in the low side.
