In one of my favorite shows, King of Queens, Doug brings home this couple and the girl asks Carrie if she has any tattoos. She replies, " No, I have a job".
The fact that you are asking this question, which you are to be commended for asking, you feel somewhere deep down inside it could cause you a problem. In my opinion you are correct.
Let's say you like music. So you pull up on your job interview and your car is bouncing because it's so loud from the music. Do you think if the people in the office hear that that it will help you? You might be the most qualified guy in the world but someone may not like that. Same way if you come in wearing pants that are five sizes too large and your pants are under your rump roast. Again, you might be the most qualified guy but not everybody goes for that sort of thing. The reason is because it's not professional.
It's All About the way that you present yourself, and you want to present yourself in a way that the majority of employers will accept you. I don't mean to squelch on your personal taste, but if you're looking for a job you need to appeal to as many employers as you can. It may not benefit you today or tomorrow or even next week but years from now it may.
So really, if you have tattoos that no one really can see and you can present yourself as a professional person my opinion is you will go further that way in whatever you do.
And some of it also depends on what the tattoos are of. If you were in the Marine Corps and you have a Semper Fi tattoo or an American flag or something there about, no one is going to fault you for that. If you go into an interview and you have tattoos up and down your neck and up and down your arms of the Grim Reaper and death and naked women chained to a bed being whipped during intercourse you greatly are reducing your chances of success.
Will having visible tattoos affect employement?
